Job summary

PIAP Space Sp. z o.o is seeking a FEM Engineer to design, analyze, and validate mechanical and mechatronic systems for space projects. You will build and run FE models, perform a range of analyses (static, dynamic, thermo-elastic, buckling) and correlate with test data.

You will ensure compliance with ECSS standards and assist in joint sizing and verification. You will prepare technical documentation and participate in design reviews, working with the technical leader and Business Development on

Qualifications

  • University degree in engineering (Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automation and Robotics/Space/Aerospace).
  • 3+ years in space industry or 4+ years in machine design/automation and robotics/aerospace performing FEM/FEA analysis.
  • Strong understanding of structural mechanics, dynamics and vibration theory.
  • Experience with at least one major commercial FEA solver (MSC Nastran preferred).
  • Experience with pre/post-processing tools (Femap preferred).
  • Experience with static strength, modal and dynamic analyses, random vibration and thermo-elastic analysis.
  • Knowledge of bolted/bonded joint analysis and fastener sizing (SpaceBolt or calculators).
  • Fluent English (minimum B2).
  • Familiarity with materials properties and ECSS standards.

Responsibilities

Job description

FEM Engineer
At least 3 years of hands‑on experience in the space industry or 4 years in machine design/automation and robotics/aerospace performing FEM/FEA analysis.

Main responsibilities:
  • Support design and development of mechanical/mechatronic systems.
  • Build, mesh, and run finite element models of structural components, assemblies and systems.
  • Perform static, dynamic (modal, random vibration, sine vibration, shock), thermo‑elastic, and buckling analyses.
  • Correlate FE models with test data (modal survey, vibration test, static load test) and update/refine models accordingly.
  • Perform stress analysis and margin of safety (MoS) calculations per applicable ECSS standards (e.g., ECSS‑E‑ST‑32, ECSS‑E‑ST‑32‑10, ECSS‑E‑HB‑32‑20).
  • Support fastener and bonded joint sizing and verification.
  • Preparation of technical documentation, including:
    • Analyses reports,
    • Procedures and reports for vibration, shock and static testing.
  • Participation in structural tests of the mechanisms and systems.
  • Participation in design reviews with the customer.
  • Cooperation with technical leader regarding definition of tasks within the project.
  • Supporting Business Development division in proposal preparations.Contribute to development and maintenance of internal analysis tools, templates and best practices.
Requirements:
  • University degree in engineering (preferred fields: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation and Robotics, Space Engineering or Aerospace Engineering).
  • At least 3 years of hands‑on experience in the space industry or 4 years in machine design/automation and robotics/aerospace performing FEM/FEA analysis.
  • Strong theoretical understanding of structural mechanics, dynamics, and vibration theory.
  • Proficiency with at least one major commercial FEA solver (MSC Nastran preferred).
  • Experience with pre/post‑processing tools (Femap preferred).Experience with:
    • Static strength analysis (stress, strain, margin of safety calculations).
    • Modal and dynamic analyses (natural frequencies, mode shapes, frequency response).
    • Random vibration and shock analysis.
    • Thermo‑elastic analysis.
  • Good understanding of bolted/bonded joint analysis and fastener sizing (with SpaceBolt or dedicated calculators).
  • Experience with vibration, shock and static testing.
  • Fluent English (minimum B2).
  • Knowledge of the commonly used materials’ properties.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good organization skills, creativity, analytical thinking and ability to work independently.
Nice to have:
  • Experience in the design, assembly or testing of devices/systems related to the space or robotics industries.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical design principles.
  • Knowledge of space environment characteristics.Experience with GIT.
  • Familiarity with SpaceVibe, SpaceBolt.
  • Familiarity with ECSS standards.
