Job description

ATMOS Works is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (m/f/d) who combines rigorous design methodology with a passion for building hardware that actually has to survive in the field. You will take ownership of structural and mechatronic components from concept through to flight-ready hardware, working in close collaboration with our electrical, software, and field test teams.

Key responsibilities
  • Design & Development
    • You will develop lightweight, manufacturable designs for structures, payload integrations, launching systems, and mechanical interfaces.
    • You will design, dimension, and optimize structural and mechatronic components using 3D CAD tools.
    • You will create and maintain complete technical documentation, including drawings, BOMs, and design rationale.
  • Analysis & Verification
    • You will conduct FEM stress and modal analyses and define test plans to validate simulation results on physical hardware.
    • You will specify and oversee mechanical acceptance testing, including static load, fatigue, and environmental tests.
    • You will analyze field return data and failure reports and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
    • You will ensure compliance with applicable aerospace and safety standards throughout the design process.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • You will work closely with Electrical Engineering to design integrated electromechanical assemblies and cable routing concepts.
    • You will support the Field Test team with technical investigation of in-field anomalies and rapid iteration on fixes.
    • You will participate in design reviews, sprint retrospectives, and formal milestone reviews.
Profile required
  • Completed degree, B.Sc. or higher, in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable field.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design, preferably SolidWorks; CATIA or equivalent is also acceptable.
  • Solid understanding of lightweight structural design principles, materials selection, and manufacturing processes, including CNC, sheet metal, composites, and additive manufacturing.
  • Experience with FEM analysis tools, such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation.
  • Ability to create precise engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
  • Structured, detail-oriented working style with a track record of delivering hardware on time.
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken.
  • *EU nationality is required.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in aerospace, defence, or high-performance robotics hardware development.
  • Practical knowledge of composite manufacturing, including CFRP layup, autoclave, and out-of-autoclave processes.
  • Familiarity with environmental and vibration testing standards, such as DO-160 or MIL-STD-810.
  • Experience with PDM / PLM systems, such as SolidWorks PDM or Teamcenter.
  • Background in Design for Additive Manufacturing, DfAM, and rapid prototyping workflows.
  • Working knowledge of relevant airworthiness or product safety frameworks.
