Job summary

Rockwell Automation in Katowice, Poland is seeking an Engineer, Embedded Software to develop firmware for Rockwell Automation devices, including network protocols and platform services. You will be part of a 6-8 person embedded team and collaborate with colleagues in the USA, Singapore and Czechia on challenging automation projects.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 2+ years of C++ firmware development, with knowledge of TCP/IP, embedded systems, and real-time OS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related IT field and practical software development experience.
  • Typically 2+ years of C++ firmware development and debugging.
  • Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet-based) and embedded systems architecture.
  • Experience with version control (GitHub/GitLab) and CI/CD (Jenkins).
  • Fluent English (B2 or higher) and a proactive, hands-on attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Firmware Development: implement and validate firmware features for Rockwell devices; write tests and participate in CI/CD workflows.
  • System Design & Architecture: participate in requirements analysis, design docs, and code reviews; ensure standards compliance.

Job Description Rockwell Automation's Design & Control business develops industrial automation solutions used worldwide in manufacturing, infrastructure, and critical systems.

Joining our team in Katowice, you'll develop firmware for Rockwell Automation products, including industrial controllers and network modules. You'll contribute to reliable, secure, and high-performance industrial automation systems. We're looking for an Engineer, Embedded Software. You will independently deliver firmware features and grow your technical expertise in embedded systems. Depending on your team, you may work on network protocol stacks, controller application firmware, or platform-level software for Rockwell Automation's industrial products. Your team will be 6-8 people and will be one of 20+ embedded teams located in Katowice. You will work together also with other teams, located in USA, Singapore and Czechia. You will report to the Team Leader/Manager, Embedded Software and have a hybrid schedule working in Katowice, Poland.

Your Responsibilities:
Firmware Development

Develop firmware components for multiple Rockwell Automation devices. Implement and validate product features in your domain, such as network protocols (Ethernet/IP, CIP), controller runtime functions, or platform/OS services. Perform firmware debugging and defect analysis, using systematic root cause analysis techniques. Write unit tests and integration tests, contributing to CI/CD-driven quality workflows.

System Design & Architecture

Participate in requirements analysis, system design, and architecture discussions. Create design documentation, including high-level and low-level specifications. Conduct code reviews and ensure compliance with embedded coding standards.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

Participate in Agile/SAFe development activities (planning, reviews, retrospectives). Collaborate with teams worldwide.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Automation and Robotics, Electronics, or related IT degree (or equivalent practical experience). Typically, 2+ years of practical software development experience in C++, using software lifecycle development methodologies (software requirements analysis, software design, software testing). Knowledge of one or more of: network protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet-based communication), embedded systems architecture, or real-time operating systems (e.g. QNX, VxWorks). Typically, 2+ years of experience in embedded systems firmware development and debugging. Practical experience with version control systems like GitHub/GitLab and CI/CD systems like Jenkins. Fluent English (B2 or higher). "Can do" and "I'll find out" attitude.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

Practical programming experience in Python or similar languages (to support testing activities and tooling). Experience in industrial automation systems (PLCs, drives, I/O modules). Practical knowledge of embedded security concepts or safety standards (e.g., IEC 62443, IEC 61508). Experience with industrial network protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, CIP). Familiarity with hardware-software interaction concepts (registers, interrupts, memory management, BSP/HAL). Experience with real-time systems. Experience with Agile software / SAFe development. Collaborative mindset: willingness to support the team, share knowledge, experiment, and maintain technical documentation.
