Embedded Software Engineer

Software, the fuel for mobility We bring bold digital visions to life. So we’re on the lookout for more curious and creative engineers who want to create change – one line of high-quality code at a time. Our transformation isn't for everyone, but if you're excited about solving the leading-edge technological challenges facing the auto industry, then let’s talk about your next move.

Let's introduce ourselves

Our team works with developing safety‑critical embedded software for modern vehicle platforms, spanning both AUTOSAR Classic and AUTOSAR Adaptive. Our software manages core vehicle functions — how the car wakes up, operates, and shuts down. Several components carry ASIL B safety classification under ISO 26262, so the code we write makes a real impact. We are based in our Tech Hub in Krakow and collaborate daily with engineering colleagues in Sweden. In line with Volvo Cars’ Office first policy, the Tech Hub in Krakow is our primary work location.

What you'll do

Above all, we’re looking for a problem solver who asks the right questions and brings clarity. In this role, you will get to design and implement embedded software in C++ across the Autosar Adaptive platform, with occasional work with C and Autosar Classic. You will contribute to developing components that handle inter-processor communication, signal routing, and system state management. You’ll also write and maintain automated tests at multiple levels — unit, integration, and system as well as work with static analysis tools and coding standards to ensure safety and quality compliance. You get to participate in code reviews, contribute to architecture discussions, and help improve our development practices and collaborate in CI/CD workflows where builds, tests, and analysis run automatically on every change.

What you'll bring

We believe that you are someone self-driven - an ambitious team player with strong ownership, dedication to quality, a structured approach, and analytical skills applied to complex engineering tasks. You share your expertise, seek support when needed, express your views confidently, and maintain high standards. You communicate well in English and have a B.Sc. or equivalent in Computer, Electrical, or IT Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar field. An M.Sc. is meritorious.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills — you reason systematically, debug methodically, and always clarify before you code
  • C++ as primary language
  • Automated testing — unit tests and mocks (GoogleTest or equivalent), understanding of multi-level testing
  • Basic Python for automation or tooling
  • Familiarity with CI pipelines and static analysis tooling
  • Git — branching, rebasing, code review workflows

Nice to have:

  • C++ in an embedded or resource‑constrained environment
  • ASPICE process experience (V-model, SWE.1–SWE.6)
  • Experience with C language and willingness to work with it
  • Experience with Bazel, or similar
  • AUTOSAR Classic & AUTOSAR Adaptive
  • ISO 26262 / Functional Safety — ASIL‑rated development, E2E protection, safety analysis
  • Experience writing applications for QNX, FreeRTOS, or other RTOS
  • MISRA C, AUTOSAR C++14, or CERT coding standards
  • Experience with Polyspace, clang-tidy, or similar static analysis tools
  • In-vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, SOME/IP, Ethernet)
  • Vector tools (CANoe, CANalyzer) or similar bus analysis tooling
  • Requirements management and traceability tooling

Volvo Cars. For Life. For nearly a century, Volvo Cars has empowered people to move freely in a personal, sustainable and safe way. Today, we are driving bold advancements in electrification, sustainability and automotive safety. To realise our ambitious vision, we are seeking innovative minds who are ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow – today. In our company, we believe extraordinary things are achieved by ordinary people with the drive to make a difference.

Applications must be received no later than 15th of September 2026. As part of the recruitment process, the final candidates might undergo a background check.
