Job summary

Ocado Group is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Data Engineering Platform, building and maintaining core infrastructure, data pipelines, and services powering analytics for Ocado Smart Platform (OSP) and Ocado Mobile Robotics Solutions (OMRS). You will modernise the platform, optimise cloud usage, and ensure high reliability of live customer-facing applications.

Qualifications

• Solid software engineering experience in Python.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible/CloudFormation).
• Strong DevOps practices including source control, CI/CD, and deployment strategy design.
• Comfort across the stack: app code, pipelines, and infrastructure.
• Fluent in English with exposure to Python, TypeScript, Terraform, GCP, BigQuery, Airflow, and PostgreSQL.

Responsibilities

• Build and run data pipelines, backend services, and analytics APIs for OSP and OMRS.
• Write and evolve Infrastructure as Code for cloud environments.
• Modernise platform by untangling technical debt and tuning Airflow/Composer.
• Identify wasteful queries and idle resources to optimise BigQuery usage and cloud costs.
• Monitor, alert, and respond to incidents to maintain health and trust.
• Maintain reliability of a live, customer-facing slot-availability app.
• Collaborate with distributed teams across Ocado Group.
