Job summary

BEC is seeking a senior Cobol software engineer to support Payments operations in a multi-site setup with teams in Warsaw and Roskilde. You will own complex tasks, mentor colleagues, and contribute to stability and evolution of our payments platforms.

The role emphasizes collaboration, ownership, and delivering on project plans, with English communication across teams in Poland and Denmark.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with COBOL, CICS, IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz), PUMA, MQ, DB2, JCL, Git, Bitbucket, Jira and ServiceNow.
• University degree in information technology, computer science or closely related discipline.
• Proven ability to take ownership of senior software engineering tasks and mentor less experienced team members.

Cobol software engineer (senior) - Payments

You will join the Payments Operations domain, working with colleagues based in Warsaw, Poland, and Roskilde, Denmark. The Cobol software engineer (senior) position offers an opportunity to contribute to the stable operation and continued development of foreign payments platforms. Your direct manager will be Dariusz Tofiło .

Primary tasks and responsibilities include:

• Collaborating closely with software engineers, the product owner, business analyst and team architect.
• Managing the daily operation and governance of systems.
• Carrying out testing, technical design and technical analysis of user stories and reported defects.
• Supporting testing through troubleshooting and defect resolution.
• Refining new user stories and assessing their technical feasibility and design.

To succeed you will have:

• Hands-on experience with COBOL, CICS, IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz), PUMA, MQ, DB2, JCL, Git, Bitbucket, Jira and ServiceNow.
• A university degree, ideally in information technology, computer science or a closely related discipline.
• Proven ability to take ownership of senior software engineering tasks, deliver according to project plans and mentor less experienced team members.
• Ability to complete complex tasks successfully.
• Strong collaboration skills, including supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge, contributing to shared team goals and actively participating in team meetings.
• Fluency in written and spoken English, enabling effective collaboration with colleagues in Poland and Denmark.

It's nice-to-have:

• Knowledge of the financial sector, particularly banking platforms such as payments and accounts.
• Knowledge of microservice architecture.
• Experience with Java development.
• Experience with test automation.
