Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in textile discipline required.

• Extensive senior-level technical experience in fabric manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Lead fabric development from yarn selection to finished fabric production.
• Optimize fabric specifications to meet performance and cost needs.
• Evaluate yarn performance for various constructions and end uses.
• Develop innovative fabric solutions aligned with market requirements.
• Provide technical leadership across knitted fabric production (Fleece, Terry, Jersey, Pique, Interlock, Spacer Fabrics).
• Oversee dyeing and finishing to meet quality standards and reduce rework.
• Ensure fabric performance meets buyer specs and testing standards.
• Establish technical standards and mentor technical teams.
• Collaborate with customer technical teams to resolve challenges.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Technical Expert – Fabric to lead fabric development, quality, and technical excellence across knitted fabric operations.

This role is responsible for managing the complete fabric development process, from yarn selection and knitting through dyeing and finishing, while ensuring fabrics consistently meet the quality, testing, and performance requirements of leading global sportswear and premium apparel brands.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise from leading fabric mills and play a key role in developing internal technical capabilities, improving quality performance, and driving innovation across fabric manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

Yarn Selection & Fabric Development

• Lead fabric development activities from yarn selection through finished fabric production.
• Optimize fabric specifications to meet customer, performance, and cost requirements.
• Evaluate yarn performance and suitability for different fabric constructions and end uses.
• Support the development of innovative fabric solutions aligned with market and customer requirements.

Knitting Operations

• Provide technical leadership across knitted fabric production, including:

  • Fleece
  • Terry
  • Jersey
  • Pique
  • Interlock
  • Spacer Fabrics

• Optimize knitting performance, efficiency, and fabric quality.

• Troubleshoot knitting-related quality and production issues.

Synthetic & Performance Fabrics

• Lead the development and production of synthetic and performance fabrics.
• Support the manufacture of football jersey fabrics, tricot fabrics, and other specialized performance textiles.
• Ensure moisture management, stretch performance, durability, and finishing standards are consistently achieved.

Dyeing & Finishing

• Oversee dyeing and finishing operations to achieve required quality standards.
• Improve first-time-right performance for color accuracy and shade matching.
• Reduce re-dyeing and rework through process optimization.
• Identify opportunities to improve process efficiency and resource utilization.

Quality Assurance & Brand Compliance

• Ensure fabric performance meets buyer requirements and technical specifications.

• Monitor and improve outcomes relating to:

  • Pilling
  • Strength
  • Color Fastness
  • Washing Performance
  • Rubbing Fastness
  • Shrinkage
  • Fabric Hand Feel

• Drive compliance with testing and chemical safety requirements of global apparel brands.

• Support quality investigations and root-cause analysis initiatives.

Technical Leadership & Capability Building

• Establish technical standards and operating procedures across yarn, knitting, dyeing and finishing operations.
• Train and mentor technical teams to strengthen internal expertise.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, cost, efficiency and sustainability.
• Collaborate with customer technical teams and internal stakeholders to resolve technical challenges effectively.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Textile Engineering, Textile Technology, Textile Chemistry, or a related discipline.

• Master's Degree or specialized training in knitting or dyeing will be an added advantage.

• Extensive senior‑level technical experience within fabric manufacturing environments.
