Job summary

Mashreq is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to lead expert legal support on sophisticated banking and finance transactions, including cross-border and syndicated loans. The role requires deep UAE and international banking law expertise and autonomous leadership within the Legal Division.

You will represent the bank in high-level meetings, mentor junior staff, and drive policy development while advising on regulatory risk and innovation initiatives across divisions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8–10 years’ post-qualification experience in international banking & finance, corporate finance, and related areas.
• Law degree from a reputable university with admission to practice law in a recognized jurisdiction.
• Strong drafting, research, and transaction-structuring abilities across multi-jurisdictional deals.
• Experience leading legal projects, managing timelines and external counsel.

Responsibilities

• Lead and provide expert legal support on complex banking and finance transactions.
• Represent the bank in senior-level meetings with clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
• Oversee external counsel and advise on regulatory matters across divisions.
• Mentor junior legal staff and promote best practices in documentation and advice.
• Draft, review, and negotiate financing documentation, including LMA-based agreements.
• Identify legal risks and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
