Job summary

Smart Working is building a truly remote-first healthtech QA team. As aQA Automation Engineer, you’ll own quality across a mature digital health platform, developing a robust automation framework and increasing test coverage for reliable releases.

You’ll work with a small engineering team, translating requirements into automated tests and delivering fast, accurate feedback to clients and internal teams. You’ll author Cucumber/Gherkin scenarios in English, build tests in JavaScript/TypeScript,

Qualifications

• 4+ years of QA or test automation experience with TypeScript/JavaScript.
• 4+ years of test automation coding in TypeScript/JavaScript.
• 2+ years of BDD test authoring with Cucumber and Gherkin.
• 3+ years of web UI test automation using a page object model (preferably Playwright).
• 2+ years of end-to-end QA ownership including defining, building and maintaining tests.
• 3+ years of requirements analysis and stakeholder communication.
• 2+ years of SQL querying to validate database state (MySQL or PostgreSQL).
• 3+ years of exploratory testing and precise multi-step defect reproduction.
• Ability to drive automation with limited direction.
• Hands-on JavaScript/TypeScript automation coding is required.

Responsibilities

• Take end-to-end ownership of QA, designing and developing the automated testing framework.
• Understand a large multi-repo system from client, end-user and internal perspectives.
• Document expected behaviour where existing docs are outdated.
• Author English-readable scenarios in Cucumber and Gherkin.
• Build automation in JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Drive UI testing through a page object model.
• Add data-test-ids to React code where missing.
• Validate correct database state using SQL.
• Maintain automated tests as new features arrive.
• Contribute to requirements upfront as new features are planned.
• Flag compliance, regulatory and security implications.
• Run exploratory testing to identify incorrect product behavior.
• Improve reliability to enable faster, safer releases.
• Reproduce multi-step defects precisely and identify edge cases.
• Build a repeatable, documented QA process from an unreliable baseline.
• Consider system behavior across multiple user perspectives and potential failures.
