Job summary

Somewhere seeks a BESS Performance Engineer to lead the performance analysis, monitoring, and reporting for a growing portfolio of standalone BESS and PV+BESS assets. You will partner with data scientists and asset management teams to build BESS KPIs, ensure assets operate at peak technical and commercial efficiency, and deliver data-driven insights.

The role reports to the VP of Engineering and requires hands-on analytics, strong knowledge of battery storage architectures, and collaboration

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in performance engineering or data analytics for energy storage.
• Master's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as electrical engineering, CS, data science, math or physics.
• Strong understanding of BESS architecture, degradation mechanisms and performance modeling.
• Experience with AC/DC power systems.
• Proficiency in Python, R, or SQL for data analysis.
• Experience with BI tools and data visualization.
• Experience with SCADA/DAS data and plant performance analytics.

Responsibilities

• Lead monitoring, performance analysis, and operational reporting for DG standalone BESS and PV+BESS assets.
• Develop and track KPIs including RTE, SOH, availability and SOC management.
• Conduct degradation modeling and predictive analytics to forecast battery life.
• Analyze large SCADA and telemetry datasets to troubleshoot underperforming systems.
• Collaborate with Data Scientist to integrate telemetry with enterprise platforms.
• Model performance impacts of transitioning to AC/DC-coupled BESS+PV configurations.
• Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders for action.
