The Data & BI Engineer turns the Simplex Suite platform’s raw data (simplexsuite.com) into clean, well-modelled, trustworthy data — and into the reports and dashboards that enlighten the business. This is a strategic role: you design the data models and the analytical layer that give leadership and customers a clear, current view of performance across orders, customers, loyalty, and operations for global QSR and F&B brands. Reporting to the CTO, you own the journey from raw data to insight — ingestion, transformation, warehousing, and BI — and you make sure what the business sees is accurate, timely, and genuinely useful.
This is a fully hands‑on position. You are in the data every day — writing the SQL and pipelines, building the models, and shipping the dashboards yourself. What matters most is impact: not reports for their own sake, but data models and BI that change decisions and move the business. You bring at least six years of hands‑on experience across raw data, transformation, data warehousing, data lakes, ETL / ELT, and BI — and a track record of turning that work into measurable business value. You keep the same secure SDLC discipline as the rest of engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Design the data models and the analytical layer — warehouse / marts, and a data lake where relevant — that the business runs on.
- Model raw, messy source data into clean, conformed, well‑documented structures (facts, dimensions, and a semantic / metrics layer).
- Own the single source of truth for business metrics — consistent definitions across every report and dashboard.
Raw Data, ETL & Transformation
- Ingest raw data from the platform, databases, and third‑party sources, and build reliable ETL / ELT pipelines.
- Transform and cleanse data with strong SQL and Python, and ensure quality, lineage, and freshness.
- Automate and schedule pipelines so data is current, monitored, and recovers cleanly from failures.
Data Warehousing & Lakes
- Build and maintain the data warehouse / lake — performant, cost‑aware, and scalable.
- Manage storage, partitioning, and modelling for fast, reliable analytical queries.
- Build and maintain the reports and dashboards that enlighten the business — clear, accurate, and decision‑ready.
- Partner with leadership and teams to understand the questions that matter, and answer them with data.
- Proactively surface the trends, outliers, and opportunities worth acting on — not just wait for requests.
Business Impact
- Tie data work to outcomes — measure whether models, reports, and dashboards actually change decisions and move the business.
- Translate analysis into plain, actionable insight for leadership and customers.
- Feed curated data views into CRM / loyalty and marketing where they drive segmentation and campaigns.
Data Quality, Security & Practice
- Own data quality — accuracy, reconciliation, and trust in every number the business sees.
- Protect data security and privacy by design — least‑privilege access, secrets in the vault, and PII / payment data safeguarded.
- Work to the secure SDLC — Git, testing, code review, CI/CD — with reproducible, well‑documented pipelines and models.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Data, Statistics, or a related field.
- 6+ years hands‑on across data engineering and BI — raw data, transformation, data warehousing, data lakes, ETL / ELT, and reporting.
- Deep, hands‑on SQL and solid Python for data work.
- Proven data modelling (dimensional / semantic layer) and data warehouse / lake experience.
- A track record of data work that created measurable business impact.
- Security‑aware, privacy‑conscious, and comfortable owning work end to end.
Skills
- Raw data to clean models; ETL / ELT; warehousing and lakes; strong SQL and Python.
BI & Insight
- Dashboards and reports that drive decisions; a consistent metrics / semantic layer; clear storytelling with data.
Business & Impact
- Connect data to outcomes, understand the QSR / F&B business, and communicate insight plainly.
Security & Practice
- Data security and privacy by design, and a disciplined secure SDLC.
Soft Skills
- Hands‑on, self‑starting, detail‑oriented, and outcome‑driven.
Performance Goals & Success Metrics
- Timeliness: the business gets current, in-depth data views and dashboards when it needs them.
- Quality: a trustworthy data layer — the numbers reconcile and are believed.
- Impact: data models, reports, and dashboards that measurably change decisions and move the business.
- Adoption: BI the business actually uses, day to day.
- Security: data handled securely and privately, with no incidents and secrets in the vault.
