Job summary

Smart Working is seeking a Founding Engineer to be the first in-house engineer, owning the platform across frontend, backend and infrastructure. You will scale and evolve the AI-native Professional Services Automation platform while continuing to ship customer-facing features.

This senior/staff-level IC role offers significant ownership, autonomy, and a path to help shape the first supporting engineering hire as funding closes. Remote-first with global collaboration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in professional software engineering, startup or high-ownership background.
• 5+ years senior full-stack with React/TS frontend and Node/Postgres backend.
• 4+ years solo ownership of cloud deployments, CI/CD.
• 3+ years with Postgres/Supabase and security features.
• 1-2+ years using AI-assisted coding tools in production.
• Have a clear method for checking AI output rather than blindly trusting it.

Responsibilities

• Own the product end-to-end as a solo generalist, building and shipping across frontend, backend and infrastructure.
• Keep the live platform healthy, manage incidents and releases with safe rollback.
• Use AI tools to boost output while verifying correctness, security and robustness.
• Lead the platform towards ISO 27001 and SOC 2 readiness by April 2027, translating external requirements into engineering controls.
• Make AI assistant and orchestration features reliable, measurable and safe.
• Move fluidly across frontend and backend as a true full-stack generalist.
