Job summary

Smart Working is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to design and scale data infrastructure powering an AI platform for property management. You will build real-time pipelines, vector databases and ML data workflows, collaborating with AI, backend, product and leadership teams.

As the first senior data hire, you will define data function, establish best practices, and help build the team as the company grows in a fully remote, global environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional data engineering experience.
• Strong background building data pipelines and distributed systems.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred).
• Experience with NoSQL databases and vector databases.
• Proficient in Python.
• Ability to justify architectural decisions.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build scalable data pipelines and infrastructure for AI and product systems.
• Design and maintain ingestion, transformation and storage for AI workloads.
• Develop batch and real-time data pipelines.
• Build and optimise vector search and ML data workflows.
• Ensure data reliability, security and governance across the platform.
• Collaborate with AI and backend teams to support training and features.
• Implement monitoring, observability and data quality frameworks.
• Define data architecture decisions and long-term strategy.
• Act as founding data hire, shaping culture and hiring standards.
