Position Overview & Description

Job Purpose

To provide expert critical care services in the ICU and contribute to teaching and training of students and residents.

Clinical:

• Manage critically ill patients in the ICU, including assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Provide round-the-clock critical care services, including emergency and on-call coverage.
• Perform and supervise ICU procedures such as intubation, central line placement and ventilator management.
• Conduct daily ICU rounds and coordinate care with other specialties.
• Communicate with patients’ families regarding condition, treatment and prognosis.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records.

Leadership and Administrative:

• Lead and supervise ICU residents, nurses and allied staff.
• Ensure ICU protocols, infection control and patient safety standards are followed.
• Assist in planning ICU resources, equipment and staffing needs.
• Participate in hospital committees and quality improvement activities, as assigned.

Academic:

• Teach and train MBBS students and postgraduate trainees, as applicable.
• Take part in clinical meetings, case discussions and CME activities.
• Support research and audit activities of the department.
