WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
  • Competitive salary based on experience;

CLIENT BACKGROUND

Our client-partner is a modern CPA and advisory firm based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The firm provides year-round bookkeeping, accounting, reporting, tax planning, and advisory support to U.S. business owners.

Our client-partner works with businesses across professional services, lodging, hospitality, real estate, energy, home improvement, and automotive, including businesses with related companies, multiple locations, and significant fixed assets.

The firm is moving beyond traditional tax preparation and focusing more on clients who value year-round support and strong relationships with their accounting team. Their goal is to provide timely financial information, proactive support, and an excellent client experience throughout the year.

Technology plays an important role in making this possible. Our client-partner uses AI and modern accounting tools to improve technical work, simplify processes, and allow the team to provide greater value to clients.

The culture is collaborative and built around trust. Team members are expected to take ownership of their work, think critically, suggest improvements, and speak up when they see a better way of doing something. They value work-life balance and believe in giving people the flexibility to manage their responsibilities without being micromanaged.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Senior Tax Accountant, you will:

  • Own month-end close, including reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and monthly financial reports;
  • Independently manage a portfolio of U.S. small-business clients, with responsibilities increasing as you become familiar with the firm's systems and processes;
  • Keep client books and transactions updated regularly to ensure timely and accurate financial information;
  • Manage more complex books involving intercompany activity, multiple entities or locations, fixed assets, depreciation, and loan schedules;
  • Prepare tax-ready books, including year-end cleanup, book-to-tax reconciliations, balance sheet support, and supporting workpapers;
  • Review prior-year financial statements and tax returns to understand how the books relate to the tax return;
  • Review new clients' books, identify cleanup requirements, and assist with scoping and pricing bookkeeping cleanup projects;
  • Recommend appropriate accounting structures, including chart of accounts, classes, locations, and workflows based on the client's industry and reporting needs;
  • Clearly explain your accounting decisions so reviewers and the U.S. team can understand and trust your work;
  • Work with payroll platforms such as Gusto, ADP, and QuickBooks Payroll;
  • Use AI and research to quickly learn client systems, including point-of-sale, property management, and job-costing tools;
  • Communicate with clients as needed regarding transactions and accounting questions;
  • Look for more efficient ways to complete recurring work and create clear, repeatable SOPs;
  • Use AI and other available resources to research, troubleshoot, and solve problems independently;
  • Participate in team discussions and share ideas that can help improve processes and grow the practice.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 3+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience supporting U.S. small businesses, with experience working with businesses generating approximately 1M–50M in revenue required; experience with a U.S. CPA firm is preferred.
  • Experience independently managing a portfolio of small-business clients;
  • Expert knowledge of QuickBooks Online, including complex cleanups and multi-entity setups;
  • Strong understanding of month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and both accrual and cash-basis accounting, with the ability to dive into complex client bookkeeping from day one, understand client workflows, and use POS systems and relevant reports to accurately record deposits, fees, and other transactions.
  • Strong independent research and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate client-specific software, identify the reports and information needed to maintain accurate QBO files, and use available resources—including AI tools such as Claude—to research systems and find solutions.
  • Experience with intercompany transactions, fixed assets, depreciation, and complex bookkeeping cleanups;
  • Experience preparing tax-ready books for S Corporations and Partnerships is required, including converting books from book to tax, completing book-to-tax reconciliations, and preparing supporting workpapers that are ready for the tax preparer.

DESCRIPTION OF IDEAL CANDIDATE

We're looking for someone who reflects the kind of culture our client-partner is building:

  • Independent, Organized & Communicative - You can work independently, manage your time and workload efficiently, and consistently meet deadlines. Strong organization and communication are key — you take ownership of your responsibilities and keep the team informed without needing constant supervision.
  • Problem Solver - You use all available resources — including AI, research, existing tools, and documentation — to troubleshoot and improve before asking the team for help. At the same time, you're never afraid to ask questions when needed, make suggestions, and jump right in when you see an opportunity to contribute.
  • Naturally Curious & Always Improving - You're naturally curious about new and better ways to improve the business and its workflows. You use the firm's robust AI infrastructure to explore new ways of adding client value and create and document SOPs that can be applied to other situations and clients.
  • Loves Learning, Growing & Taking Initiative - You're always thinking about how you can contribute more to the team and continue developing personally and professionally. You ask for more responsibility, take initiative, and enjoy being part of a small, entrepreneurial team where good ideas can be tested quickly without layers of corporate approval. You're comfortable taking ownership of an idea and running with it.
  • Values longevity and long-term commitment - The ideal candidate has a stable employment history and has not frequently moved between roles without a clear reason. Our client-partner is looking for someone who wants to grow with the firm, build strong relationships with the team, and stay for the long term.
