Job summary

Private Advertiser is seeking a Trade Analyst - IVP to ensure timely issuance of reports used by importers at Customs. The role involves assessing product and exporter risk levels, determining essential requirements, and applying HS classification and valuation methodologies to confirm prices declared by trade parties.

The candidate will evaluate transactions, provide timely responses to inquiries, and ensure high-quality reports in compliance with IVP and country instructions.

Qualifications

• University degree is required.
• 2+ years in technical/import/export fields preferred.
• Fluent in English; other languages advantageous.
• Able to apply judgment per SGS ethics & integrity standards.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate goods to verify eligibility for importation under contract requirements and country instructions.
• Provide HS code classification and valuation opinions for reports.
• Coordinate with Valuation Center based on seller country for price research and valuation.
• Issue Reports following IVP Rules, country instructions, QA procedures, and references.
• Audit information quality and document completeness; ensure correct system registration.
• Audit file administration, HS code classification, and valuation opinions for Reports.

About the role

The Trade Analyst - IVP ensures correct and timely issuance of reports used by importers in releasing goods at Customs to facilitate trade transactions. The role involves assessing product and exporter risk levels, identifying product essential requirements, and following the Business Rules on Import Verification Program (IVP), Harmonized System (HS) classification, import eligibility, and country instructions. The Trade Analyst provides technically appropriate product classification using the HS code system and evaluates transactions to provide valuation opinions based on valuation methodologies to confirm the correctness of prices declared by trade parties.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate the details of goods presented using product technical expertise and industry experience to verify eligibility for importation under specific contract requirements and Government client Country Instructions
• Provide HS code classification and valuation opinion on Reports based on Business Rules, SGS database, Valuation Methodologies and related references
• Identify files requiring coordination with the responsible Valuation Center based on country of seller for valuation opinion and price research
• Issue Reports based on Import Verification Program (IVP) Business Rules, Country Instructions, Quality Assurance procedures, performance standards and related references
• Audit the quality of information and completeness of documents and ensure correct registration in the system
• Audit file administration, HS code classification and valuation opinion of Reports to be issued
• Provide timely and effective responses to the SGS network regarding inquiries concerning HS code classification, valuation cases and service request inquiries
• Conduct technical and comprehensive investigation on Reports with HS code classification and valuation issues
• Send inquiries to Regional Offices (RO) or Contract Management Offices (CMO) for additional information necessary for correct Report issuance
• Monitor status and follow up pending issues and research cases to ensure faster resolution
