Job summary

Lloyd’s Register is seeking a Surveyor/Senior Surveyor to join its Spain-based team. The role covers Existing vessels, New Construction, Materials & components, with occasional work outside the area as needed.

You will manage surveys, provide technical guidance, and ensure delivery to budget and contract requirements. The successful candidate will have engineering or marine qualifications, professional membership, and strong English communication skills, with project management experience

Qualifications

  • Engineering or physical science degree (or marine/nautical qualifications) with sea-going experience.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards).
  • Experience in verification, product and rule development, and delivering technical services within budgets/timeframes.
  • Ability to apply engineering knowledge to optimise existing and emerging technology.
  • Strong English communication across all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct activities, undertake project management and advise on service delivery within area of experience.
  • Produce deliverables to schedule, budget and quality requirements.
  • Present deliverables to internal/external clients and suggest solutions as needed.
  • Work in line with procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and standards.
  • Pursue CPD and maintain high discipline and knowledge.
  • Assess time/value of work for external clients and contribute to fee structuring.
  • Support external client management and continuous service improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate authorisations are gained and kept up to date.

What we are looking for
  • This position is based in North Spain, and covers the relevant activities in that area for Existing vessels, New Construction, Materials & components. Occasional work outside of this area is also expected to cover business needs. The role is primarily dealing with the survey of Existing vessels and Materials & components activities and will be appointed at Surveyor or Senior Surveyor grade depending on experience and skills.

The Role
  • As a surveyor you will conduct relevant activities, undertake project management and provide advice for service delivery within own area of experience, adhering to budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • Produce the deliverable to the agreed schedule, budget and quality levels within an appropriate format and take responsibility to review and monitor other employee’s work as requested.
  • Discuss and present the deliverable with the internal / external client and be able to suggest solutions as necessary.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
  • Assess or recommend the time and value of the work to be undertaken for an external client and to assist in identifying the most appropriate fee and cost structure.
  • Contribute to external client management; ensuring service delivery is continually improved through monitoring and acting on client feedback appropriately.
  • Ensure the appropriate authorisations are gained and are kept up to date. This may involve Activity Monitoring.
What you bring
Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements:
  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards)
  • To work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics
  • Previous experience of verification processes, product and rule development and project management with experience of delivering technical services and products within defined budgets and timescales.
  • To be able to use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to optimise the application of existing and emerging technology.
  • To be able to apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to analyse and solve engineering problems.
  • To provide technical and commercial leadership within the responsibilities assigned.
  • To demonstrate effective interpersonal skills including communication in English at all levels.
