Job summary

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, seeks an AI/ML Engineer with NLP, OCR and cloud ML expertise to modernize fax workflows and telephony systems through scalable AI solutions.

You will architect and deliver production-grade models, mentor teammates, and collaborate with product and design teams to deploy secure, reliable AI across healthcare platforms.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience working with Natural Language processing.
• 3+ years deploying and managing ML models on cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• 3+ years leveraging cloud-native tools for model training, deployment and monitoring.
• 2+ years of experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation.

Responsibilities

• Architect, deliver hands-on, mentor & review team members and ensure timely delivery with dependencies.
• Collaborate with product management, design, support and other dev teams to create high-quality solutions.
• Solve difficult and sometimes ambiguous problems.

We are looking for a highly talented AI/ML Engineer with expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Machine Learning (ML), and cloud-based AI solutions to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in revolutionizing our workflows by leveraging AI-driven automation and enhancing efficiency, with a focus on modernizing fax processes and telephony systems. This role demands a solid technical background, strong analytical skills, ethical decision-making, and a collaborative mindset to deliver impactful solutions that align with both organizational objectives and societal values.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Architect, deliver hands-on, mentor & review other team members and deliver on timelines with alldependenciesand innovative needs thought out, coordinated with cross-team stakeholders
• Work with product management, design,supportand other dev teams members to create high-quality solutions

Required Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of experience working withNatural Language processing
• 3+ years of experience withDeployingandmanageML models on cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• 3+ years of experienceleveragingcloud-native tools like Azure Machine Learning, AWS SageMaker, GCP AI Platform for model training, deployment, and monitoring
• 2+years of experience working withRetrieval-Augmented Generation

Preferred Qualifications:

• 6+ years of AI/ML Engineering experience
• ExperiencewithOptical Character Recognition (OCR)for document digitization and data extraction
• ExperiencewithIntelligent document processing
• Deep experience withadditionalserver-side frameworks and technologies such asFastAPI, Node.js, Flask,Djangoetc.
• Experience workingin accordance withDev/Sec/Ops principles, and familiarity with industry deployment best practices using CI/CD tools,MLOps,LLMOpsandinfrastructure ascode (Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Git etc.)
• Expert knowledge of Python/SQL and AI/ML libraries (tensorflow/PyTorch/SciKit/Seaborn etc.)
• Familiarity withtelephony systems, including voice processing, speech recognition, and platform integration
• Proven track recordof shipping andmaintainingproduction, enterprise scale AIapplicationsand data science products
• Proven solid computer sciencefundamentsin data structures, algorithms, automated testing, object-oriented programming, performance complexity, and implications of computer architecture on software performance
