Job description

MStar Innovation is a FinTech company operating in Mexico's financial sector. We are building scalable, technology-driven financial products to transform the way financial services are delivered.

We are looking for proactive, resilient, and highly accountable professionals who are excited to work in a fast-paced environment, take ownership, and contribute to building processes and solutions from the ground up.

About the Role

We are looking for a Sr. Accounting Analyst to join our Finance & Accounting team and take ownership of accounting operations across assigned entities and portfolios.

This role goes beyond transactional accounting. You will play a key role in the month-end close process, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and Mexican regulatory compliance, while also serving as a technical reference for junior team members.

The ideal candidate combines strong accounting fundamentals with analytical thinking, attention to detail, autonomy, and a continuous-improvement mindset. You will have the opportunity to identify control gaps, improve and automate accounting processes, and contribute to the accounting treatment of new financial products in a growing FinTech environment.

What You'll Do
Accounting Operations
  • Manage, reconcile, and review assigned bank accounts on a daily and monthly basis, including complex reconciliation items.
  • Oversee and review accounts payable transactions and fixed assets.
  • Record and process payroll payments in coordination with HR and payroll teams.
  • Record collections, early payments, and pay-off transactions.
  • Perform portfolio-level reconciliations between the loan management system and the General Ledger.
  • Review journal entries prepared by junior analysts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation.
Month-End Close & Reporting
  • Lead the month-end close process for assigned entities or portfolios and coordinate deliverables across the team.
  • Prepare and review monthly close workpapers, journal entries, account balances, and supporting documentation.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Contribute to variance analysis and provide relevant commentary on financial results.
  • Deliver periodic reports to the Accounting Manager with clear documentation, source references, and actionable insights.
Process Improvement & Technology
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and workflows.
  • Leverage accounting and ERP systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities for system configuration and workflow optimization.
  • Be open to adopting AI-assisted tools and new technologies to improve accounting workflows.
Team Collaboration & Technical Leadership
  • Act as a day-to-day technical reference for junior Accounting Analysts.
  • Review work and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Support the onboarding of new team members by sharing accounting processes, best practices, and MStar standards.
  • Collaborate with Tax, Treasury, Operations, HR, and other teams to ensure accurate and timely accounting of complex transactions.
What We're Looking For
  • 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience, with increasing scope and responsibility.
  • Experience in financial services, FinTech, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience reviewing or supervising the work of junior accountants.
  • Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and accounting controls.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Upper-intermediate English required; Advanced English preferred.
Nice to Have
  • Experience in a Big Four or second-tier audit firm such as PwC, Deloitte, EY, KPMG, BDO, Mazars, or RSM.
  • Previous experience in a startup or high-growth environment.
  • Experience with accounting automation, ERP optimization, or AI-enabled accounting tools.
What We Value

At MStar, we believe high performance starts with strong ownership and collaboration. We value:

  • Accountability: You own your responsibilities and proactively communicate risks and blockers.
  • Reliability: You consistently deliver on deadlines and commitments.
  • Collaboration: You work effectively and respectfully across teams and levels.
  • Open Communication: You communicate clearly, directly, and through the right channels.
  • Respect: You maintain a professional and constructive approach with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Resilience: You adapt quickly and maintain quality in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment.
Why Join MStar?
  • Join a growing FinTech company transforming financial services in Mexico.
  • Gain direct exposure to regulated financial products and complex accounting operations.
  • Work closely with Finance, Tax, Treasury, Operations, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Have the opportunity to improve and automate processes rather than simply maintain them.
  • Develop your expertise in FinTech, accounting technology, automation, and AI-enabled workflows.
  • Work in an environment where ownership, learning, and continuous improvement are highly valued.
If you're an experienced accounting professional looking for a role where you can combine technical expertise, autonomy, and process improvement, we'd love to hear from you.

We'd love to meet you and have you join our community! We do not discriminate on any grounds protected by law. We value diversity and firmly believe that an environment free from discrimination drives innovation, respect, and mutual growth.
