The role
You will be the remote technical design engine behind our sales team. Our sales engineers gather drawings, operational data and requirements from customers and pass them to you. You will turn this information into integrated fixed and mobile automation concepts, size and cost them with our engineering partners in Europe and China, and produce the layouts and proposals our sales team takes to customers. You will join customer video calls when needed to clarify requirements or present solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Review customer drawings, operational data and requirements supplied by the sales team; identify gaps and specify what additional information sales should collect.
- Analyse operational data (SKU profiles, order lines, inventory, throughput, peak factors, shift patterns) to define design requirements.
- Develop integrated solution concepts combining AMRs/AGVs, shuttle systems, AS/RS, vertical lift modules, conveyors, racking and dock automation.
- Produce layouts, material-flow diagrams and throughput and capacity calculations; use simulation where needed to validate performance.
- Define the software architecture across WMS, WCS and fleet management, including interfaces to the customer's ERP or WMS.
- Prepare bills of materials and cost estimates with manufacturing partners in China and engineering colleagues in Austria.
- Write technical proposals, functional specifications and ROI / business-case analyses for the sales team to present.
- Join customer video calls to clarify requirements, answer technical questions and present solution concepts.
- Support the sales team and channel partners remotely with technical input, solution options and sales tools.
- Hand over won projects to the delivery team with a complete design package, and support scope and change management during execution.
- Build and maintain standard design templates, calculation tools and a library of reference solutions to speed up proposals.
Requirements
- Degree in mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, mechatronics or logistics engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years in intralogistics or warehouse automation solution design, presales or application engineering at a system integrator or equipment manufacturer.
- Hands-on experience designing systems with at least two of: AMR/AGV, shuttle systems, AS/RS, vertical lift modules, conveyors or sortation.
- Strong data analysis skills in Excel (pivot tables, SKU and order profiling, throughput modelling).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for layouts; working knowledge of 3D or simulation tools.
- Understanding of WMS/WCS functions, system interfaces (APIs, middleware) and basic PLC and controls concepts.
- Ability to design confidently from drawings and data gathered by others, and to ask the right questions to close information gaps.
- Ability to build clear proposals, cost models and ROI cases for commercial decision-makers.
- Excellent written and spoken English, and confident presenting to customers over video calls.
- Proven experience working remotely and independently, with a track record of meeting deadlines without close supervision.
Advantageous
- Simulation experience (e.g. FlexSim, Demo3D, Siemens Plant Simulation, Visual Components).
- Experience across both warehousing/distribution and manufacturing intralogistics.
- Experience working with China-based equipment suppliers or European engineering teams.
- Spoken Mandarin, Vietnamese, Malay or Thai.
- Lean or industrial engineering background (process mapping, time studies, layout optimisation).
