Job summary

MicroSourcing International in Parañaque is seeking an SMP Estimator for a hybrid, day-shift role. You will oversee tender preparation, ensure detailed cost coverage, and analyze documents to determine costs, risks, and opportunities.

Responsibilities include bidding, subcontractor liaison, and cost reporting. Tertiary Mechanical Engineering qualification and strong MS Excel skills are required, with experience in tender submissions and RFIs a plus.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Proficiency in MS Excel.
• Experience as an SMP Estimator or similar role.
• Ability to prepare tender submissions, cost estimates, and basic schedules.
• Ability to interpret contractual documents, specifications, and drawings.
• Experience issuing RFIs and clarifications with clients/subcontractors.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

• Review construction documents and analyze specifications for costs.
• Analyze bid documents to identify risks and opportunities and report to management.
• Solicit subcontractor bids and supplier quotations; compare against self-performs.
• Recommend cost-reduction options to improve bids.
• Identify and evaluate technical issues related to projects.
• Complete forecast and tender cost reporting.

Your Role

As an SMP Estimator, you will:

• Oversee the preparation of estimates and submission of tenders.
• Ensure estimates include a high level of detail covering labour, materials, realistic timing, and cost structures.
• Research and review construction and design documents and analyse specifications to determine estimated costs.
• Critically analyse bid documents to identify and understand project risks and opportunities and communicate these to management.
• Solicit subcontractor bids and material supplier quotations and determine acceptable bids by comparing them against self-perform estimates.
• Recommend and incorporate cost-reduction options to support more competitive bids.
• Identify and evaluate technical issues related to projects.
• Complete forecast and tender cost reporting.
• Proactively identify and manage contract risks to meet organisational obligations and achieve planned contract outcomes.
• Ensure legislative, pre-contract, and commercial obligations are met throughout the tender process.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the estimating team by sharing best practices, industry knowledge, and innovative approaches.
• Manage department budget considerations and provide accurate financial information.
• Consider the commercial impact of estimation initiatives.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to optimise processes, tools, products, and services.
• Work collaboratively with leadership and team members to improve productivity and identify potential issues before they arise.
• Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, environment, and quality requirements in all activities.
• Perform other duties as required to support operational requirements.

What You Need

Non-negotiables

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Proficiency in MS Excel.
• Demonstrated experience as an SMP Estimator or in a similar role.
• Ability to prepare tender submissions, cost estimates, and basic schedules.
• Demonstrated ability to comprehend and interpret contractual documents, specifications, and drawings.
• Experience preparing, issuing, and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs) and clarifications with clients and subcontractors.
• Ability to work positively and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with clients, colleagues, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Strong objectivity, judgement, and decision‑making skills.
• High level of confidentiality and values‑based behaviours.

Preferred Skills/expertise/experience

• Postgraduate degree.
• Experience within the civil or construction industry.
• Experience working remotely in a FIFO role.
• Strong influencing and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Self‑motivation.
• Proven leadership skills.
• Knowledge of commercial considerations in estimating and tendering.
