Job summary

Manulife GWAM Systems and Platform Services seeks a Workload Automation Specialist to own and evolve enterprise batch workflows supporting global financial platforms.

You will design ESP/Control‑M jobs, manage dependencies and calendars, and implement changes with a focus on production stability and scalable automation. The role requires coordination with application teams and adherence to risk and security policies.

Qualifications

• Experience with Broadcom CA Workload Automation dSeries (ESP) or equivalent enterprise scheduling tools.
• Background in batch scheduling, application support, production operations, or technical operations roles.
• Strong analytical, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to work a rotating or night shift.

Responsibilities

• Designs and builds batch workflows in CA ESP based on defined requirements.
• Configures and manages job dependencies, calendars, and execution logic.
• Implements workflow changes for new requirements, defect fixes, and improvements.
• Works with application teams to clarify requirements needed to complete assigned work.
• Supports promotion of workflows across DEV, UAT, and PROD and validates expected behavior.
• Troubleshoots workflow issues and identifies root causes at the job or workflow level.
• Implements fixes to resolve identified issues within their assigned scope.
• Participates in monthly review of job failures and contributes observations when applicable.
• Follows established scheduling standards and best practices and change management processes.
• Ensures work aligns with risk and security policies; supports audit requests with documentation.
• Creates and manages SSH keys; participates in on-call rotation for high-priority issues.
• Completes assigned build work and governance-related activities.

Join Manulife’s Global Wealth and Asset Management (GWAM) Systems and Platform Services team as a Workload Automation Specialist. In this role, you will own and evolve enterprise batch automation workflows that support mission‑critical financial platforms used globally. Your work ensures production stability today while enabling smarter, scalable automation for the future.

Responsibilities

• Designs and builds batch workflows in CA ESP based on defined requirements
• Configures and manages job dependencies, conditions, calendars, and execution logic
• Implements workflow changes for new requirements, defect fixes, and improvements as assigned
• Works with application teams to clarify requirements needed to complete assigned work
• Supports promotion of workflows across DEV, UAT, and PROD and validates expected behavior
• Troubleshoots workflow issues assigned to them and identifies root causes at the job or workflow level
• Implements fixes to resolve identified issues within their assigned scopeParticipates in monthly review of job failures and contributes observations when applicable
• Follows established scheduling standards and best practices when building or modifying workflows
• Follows Manulife change management processes for all updates
• Ensures work aligns with risk and security policies
• Supports audit requests by providing requested information and documentation when asked
• creates and manages SSH keys following established procedures
• Participates in on-call rotation for high-priority issues when engaged
• Completes assigned build work (new workflows, enhancements, changes) and KLO/run work (fixes, support tasks, governance-related activities)

Senior Role Responsibilities (In Addition to Core Responsibilities)

These responsibilities reflect expanded ownership, coordination, and influence across the team’s work.

• Acts as the primary point of contact for specific applications, initiatives, or incoming requests, coordinating work across the team
• Manages and maintains the team’s JIRA board, ensuring tickets are clear, prioritized, assigned, and kept up to date
• Reviews incoming requests and distributes work across the team based on priorities and capacity
• Owns and coordinates larger requests or initiatives (e.g., project-driven work), ensuring progress, follow-ups, and completion
• Makes decisions on prioritization and sequencing of work when conflicts arise
• Owns workflow design across multiple related requests or applications, ensuring consistency and alignment
• Identifies patterns across multiple issues or requests and drives broader fixes rather than addressing items individually
• Drives adoption of improvements across workflows, beyond their own assigned work
• Acts as the decision point for unclear or complex scheduling design situations within the team
• Engages with application teams to clarify, refine, or challenge requirements to ensure workable and stable solutions
• Ensures consistency in workflow design approach across different applications and workstreams
• Owns coordination and decision-making during high-priority or complex issues requiring design input
• Represents the team when interacting with application teams, project teams, or audit/compliance groups where coordination or deeper context is required
• Takes ownership of unclear, unassigned, or stalled work and ensures it progresses to completion
• Provides guidance to team members on approach, design decisions, and problem-solving
• Identifies gaps in how the team operates (process, intake, coordination, design consistency) and works to improve them

Required Qualifications:

• Experience with Broadcom CA Workload Automation dSeries (ESP) or equivalent enterprise scheduling tools (e.g., Control‑M)
• Background in batch scheduling, application support, production operations, or technical operations roles
• Strong analytical, organization, and problem‑solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability and willingness to work a rotating or night shift

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI)
• Knowledgeable in scripting (e.g., JavaScript)
• SQL query development and data analysis
• SFTP and secure file‑transfer processes
• General understanding of server and network concepts
• Familiarity with ITIL, SDLC, and compliance‑controlled environments
