Job summary

SMEC seeks an experienced Welding Inspector to oversee welding quality on major infrastructure projects. You will verify WPS/PQR, witness NDT, and maintain inspection records while coordinating with QA/QC and site teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, metallurgical, welding engineering or related discipline.
• CWI certification preferred.
• Minimum 5 years’ welding inspection experience on large infrastructure.
• Familiar with AWS, ASME, ISO, API welding standards.
• Proficient in reading drawings, welding symbols, and quality docs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct visual inspection of welding works before, during, and after welding.
• Verify compliance with WPS, PQR, and project specs.
• Inspect joint prep, fit-up, alignment, and consumables.
• Monitor welding parameters and post-weld heat treatment where applicable.
• Identify welding defects and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain inspection records and NCRs.
• Review welder qualifications and certifications.
• Coordinate with QA/QC, contractors, and NDT specialists.
• Witness NDT activities (UT, RT, MT, PT) as required.
• Prepare inspection reports and participate in ITPs.
• Report non-conforming works and track corrective actions.
• Provide recommendations to Resident Engineer on welding quality.
