Job summary

SMEC (An SJ Group Company) in the Philippines seeks an experienced Welding Inspector to ensure compliance with WPS/PQR, AWS, ASME and ISO standards across hydropower and large infrastructure projects.

The role focuses on visual inspection, welder qualifications review, NC reports, weld maps and QA/QC documentation, with emphasis on preventing non-conformances and supporting continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Welding Engineering or related field.
• CWI certification preferred.
• NDT Level II certification an advantage.
• Minimum 5 years' welding inspection experience on hydropower, dams, power plants or large infrastructure.
• Familiarity with AWS, ASME, ISO, API welding standards.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and welding symbols.

Responsibilities

• Conduct visual inspection of welding works before, during, and after welding activities.
• Verify compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and PQRs and project specs.
• Inspect joint preparation, fit-up, alignment, root gap, bevel angle, and consumables.
• Monitor welding parameters incl. preheating and interpass temps.
• Identify welding defects and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain inspection records, weld maps, NCRs and QA/QC documentation.
• Coordinate with site teams and NDT specialists; witness NDT as required.
• Prepare daily/weekly/monthly welding inspection reports.
