Job summary

hammerjack is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage Australian SME accounting and tax compliance from source records through Director review. You will own year-end work, statutory reporting, budgets and workpapers, while supporting client communications within approval boundaries and introducing AI-assisted bookkeeping once core work is established.

You will work with Xero, XPM, and BGL tools to deliver accurate compliance and financial statements, with a focus on high-quality, review-ready

Qualifications

• 5-7 years’ accounting experience, including at least 4 years in Australian public practice
• Experience independently completing full year-end compliance for companies, trusts and individuals
• Strong working knowledge of Australian income tax for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals; trust taxation, UPEs and s100A awareness
• Hands-on Xero skills and intermediate or higher Excel proficiency
• Experience with XPM or similar practice management system; exposure to AI or bookkeeping automation tools is desirable
• Excellent written and spoken English; autonomous work style and ability to meet deadlines

Responsibilities

• Deliver year-end accounting and tax compliance for companies, trusts, partnerships, and individuals; prepare tax planning estimates and documents for Director review
• Maintain ledgers and statutory reporting including bank reconciliations, journals, depreciation and BAS/IAS
• Manage SMSF and corporate compliance using BGL Simple Fund 360 and BGL CAS 360; liaise with auditors
• Own job delivery workflows and budgets in Xero Practice Manager; prepare engagement renewals and information requests for Director approval
• Introduce AI-assisted bookkeeping from month 3 and optimize processes
