Job summary

Pear Tree is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator with proven New Zealand construction experience across residential and commercial projects. You will support estimating, tender submissions, procurement, cost tracking and back costing, while also providing basic project-management support.

The role requires NZ terminology understanding, confident communication with clients, subcontractors and internal teams, and availability to work 30-40 hours per week during NZ business hours.

Qualifications

• Proven previous experience working within the New Zealand construction industry.
• Experience across both residential and commercial construction projects.
• Demonstrated experience in quantity surveying, estimating or construction cost management.
• Ability to complete accurate quantity take-offs from architectural and construction drawings.
• Experience preparing detailed quotations and full tender submissions.
• Ability to produce practical project schedules alongside quotations.
• Experience obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor pricing.
• Strong understanding of variations, project cost tracking and back costing.
• Willingness to complete general administrative work when estimating workloads are lighter.
• Availability to work 30-40 hours per week during New Zealand business hours.

Responsibilities

• Review architectural drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documentation.
• Prepare accurate labour, material, subcontractor and preliminary cost estimates.
• Develop detailed scopes of work and pricing schedules.
• Coordinate supplier and subcontractor pricing for each tender.
• Maintain tender registers and track submission dates.
• Prepare tender submissions from initial review to final delivery.
• Track actual project costs against estimates and budgets.
• Provide clear project-performance information to management.
