BruntWork is seeking an experienced estimator/quantity surveyor for commercial interior fit-out projects. You will review architectural drawings, perform precise takeoffs, and prepare detailed estimates to support tender bids.
Proficiency with On Screen Takeoff or PlanSwift is required. This remote role offers flexible hours and international collaboration with a New Zealand client, focusing on ceilings, partitions, and plasterboard systems.
Do you have experience measuring suspended ceilings, partitions, wall systems, and plasterboard installations? In this role, you will take ownership of the measurement and quantity takeoff process for commercial interior fit-out projects, enabling faster tender turnaround and more competitive bidding. Working directly with the leadership team, you'll review architectural drawings, calculate material volumes, and prepare detailed estimates that form the foundation of project proposals.
Our client is a growing construction company specializing in commercial interior fit-out services in New Zealand. They focus on suspended ceilings, steel stud walls, partitions (aluminium and glazed), and plasterboard installations.
Monday - Friday, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM NZST (20 work hours per week; flexible arrangement possible)
Review blueprints and architectural drawings for commercial interior fit-out projects including ceilings, walls, partitions, and plasterboard systems
Perform accurate quantity takeoffs using On Screen Takeoff software, measuring dimensions and calculating exact material volumes and square footage
Identify critical details in drawings that impact project costs, flagging specialty items like acoustic wall linings and timber wall linings
Prepare organized pricing spreadsheets compiling takeoff information for review and rate application
Update estimates based on revised drawings, change orders, and project addenda
Prepare monthly payment claims based on site progress information provided by the project team
Conduct cost analysis using historical data and current market pricing for materials and labor
Collaborate with the team to clarify design uncertainties and note exclusions or potential project risks
Maintain markup files that can be shared and reviewed seamlessly within the team workflow
Ensure all measurements capture hidden costs and specialty details that could impact project profitability
3+ years of experience as an estimator or quantity surveyor specifically in interior fit-out or commercial interiors
Experience measuring suspended ceilings, partitions, wall systems, and plasterboard installations
Proficiency with quantity takeoff software (On Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, or similar platforms)
Proven ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and technical details with high accuracy
University education in quantity surveying, construction management, or related field
Bonus if you have experience with cost estimating and pricing in addition to takeoff work
It helps if you're familiar with New Zealand or Australian construction standards and practices
Bonus if you have experience preparing tender documents and project proposals
It helps if you've worked with CostX or other integrated estimating platforms
