Job summary

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES, COLLEGE OF SCIENCE is seeking an experienced operator to maintain and support scientific instruments, perform preventive maintenance, and assist in laboratory activities.

The role involves coordinating with faculty and researchers, managing inventories, and ensuring documentation is up to date. Strong organizational skills and careful execution of procedures are essential.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or completion of Grade 10/Junior High School with two years of relevant experience.
• Eight hours of relevant training.
• Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

• Conducts regular inspection, preventive maintenance, performance checks, troubleshooting, and documentation of laboratory and scientific equipment and instruments; coordinates equipment-related concerns with faculty, researchers, service providers, and offices; reports maintenance or repair needs promptly.
• Maintains and updates inventory records of laboratory equipment, accessories, spare parts, consumables, and supplies; monitors stock levels and equipment status; coordinates procurement and replenishment with faculty and researchers.
• Provides technical assistance and operational support during laboratory classes, research activities, analytical work, training programs, workshops, meetings, seminars, conferences, and other Institute activities requiring the use of scientific instruments and laboratory facilities.
• Prepares, maintains and updates records related to equipment monitoring, maintenance, calibration, utilization, inventories, and other documents; performs encoding, scanning, filing, tracking and other administrative tasks.
• Assists in transport, installation, setup, and organization of laboratory equipment, instruments, samples, materials, and related resources during operations and events.
