About This Role
Arup, a global firm of sustainable design and engineering, is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer (Grade 6) to join its Buildings team in Manila. The role focuses on delivering hyperscale and complex data‑centre projects across the Philippines and wider APAC region, leading multidisciplinary MEPF design from concept through to commissioning. After an initial three‑month on‑site setup, the position will transition to a hybrid work arrangement.
The Opportunity
As a senior technical, project, and people leader you will manage multidisciplinary MEPF design, ensure regulatory compliance, and align engineering solutions with client requirements for capacity, resilience, scalability, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of a high‑performance team to win and execute projects across the SIT / Data Centre market.
- Assist the section leader with business development and prepare proposals and negotiations within the SMEPF framework.
- Act as project leader on assigned projects, driving design excellence and delivery.
- Supervise and coordinate groups of engineers across mechanical, electrical, ELV, fire protection and plumbing/drainage disciplines for complex, hyperscale data‑centre projects.
- Define and enforce quality and design standards, ensuring all outputs meet client and regulatory expectations.
Qualifications
- Professional Mechanical Engineer (PME) with ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE) status or equivalent chartership strongly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of technical and mechanical design experience, including at least 5 years in data‑centre (hyperscale/colo/enterprise) design.
- Recognised certifications with professional institutions such as PSME, ASHRAE, NFPA, Uptime Institute, ANSI/TIA‑942, ISO 5001, or equivalent professional knowledge.
- Business development and project management experience, with a demonstrated ability to build lasting client relationships and generate new business.
- Expertise in thermal or cooling load analysis, energy modelling, CFD, sustainability, and familiarity with software tools for both design and project management.
- Strong interpersonal skills at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Familiarity with international and local design standards and codes, e.g. Philippine Codes, US standards, BS, JIS.
