Job summary

ING Hubs Philippines is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join our Open Banking & XS2A domain. You will design, develop, and operate secure, scalable backend services and APIs, contributing to architecture discussions in an agile, international environment.

You will work on secure payment solutions, leverage Java 21+, Spring Boot, and microservices, and help evolve CI/CD pipelines and observability. Collaboration with global teams is key.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering in Java.
• Expertise in Java 21+, Spring Boot, microservices.
• Experience building secure, scalable REST APIs.
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases and persistence frameworks.
• Experience with Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
• Hands-on automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
• Cloud-native and DevOps practices familiarity.
• Strong software-architecture knowledge and design patterns.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication.
• Experience in Agile and DevOps environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT/Engineering.

Role Summary

As a Senior Java Engineer, you will be part of ING's Open Banking & XS2A domain, helping deliver innovative banking capabilities through APIs and modern engineering practices. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining secure, reliable, and scalable payment solutions that support millions of customers worldwide. This role combines hands‑on backend engineering with opportunities to contribute to API design, software architecture discussions, and technical leadership within an Agile environment.

About the Team

The Payment and Settlement Services (PSS) organization is responsible for developing and enhancing ING's global payment platforms and settlement services. Our teams build and maintain critical banking solutions that are secure, compliant, resilient, and customer‑focused. As part of an international organization, you'll collaborate with colleagues across multiple countries while contributing to products that power the future of banking.

What You Bring

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience using Java.
• Strong expertise in Java 21+, Spring Boot, and microservices development.
• Experience building secure, scalable REST APIs.
• Strong knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases and data persistence frameworks.
• Experience with Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
• Hands‑on experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with cloud-native and DevOps practices.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
