Job summary

ING Hubs Philippines is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Retail Banking technology team. You will design, develop, and enhance backend services that support critical banking functions, building secure, scalable solutions for millions of customers.

You will collaborate across ING's global network to promote engineering excellence, shape technical decisions, and mentor colleagues while delivering reliable APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and security-minded software within agile teams.

Qualifications

• Proven backend development experience with Java 8/11 or higher.
• Strong Spring and Spring Boot experience.
• Solid OOP principles and RESTful API design.
• Hands-on Git usage and unit testing with JUnit/Mockito.
• Experience in Agile teams and collaborative environments.
• Knowledge of CI/CD and test automation is a plus.
• Familiarity with security best practices in SDLC.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll join our Retail Banking technology team, where you'll play a key role in designing, developing, and enhancing backend solutions that support critical banking services.

Beyond hands-on engineering, you'll help shape technical decisions, promote engineering excellence, and support the growth of fellow engineers. You'll collaborate with colleagues across ING's global network to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable solutions that improve the banking experience for millions of customers.

What You'll Do

• Develop and maintain reliable, high-quality backend applications

What We're Looking For

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience developing backend applications using Java 8, Java 11, or higher
• Strong experience with Spring and Spring Boot
• Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
• Hands-on experience with Git or other version control tools
• Experience with unit testing and test automation frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including design patterns and clean coding practices
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience working within Agile development teams

Nice to Have

• Experience with SQL databases, JPA, Hibernate, or related technologies
• Knowledge of microservices architecture
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration concepts
• Experience with CI/CD tools and build automation tools such as Maven
• Exposure to cloud technologies and modern engineering practices
