Job summary

GlobalLogic is seeking a senior backend focused engineer to design and build scalable services in Java or Kotlin, with strong experience in distributed databases, gRPC, REST, and cloud deployment on GCP. The role also involves frontend collaboration using Angular/TypeScript and RxJS for state management.

You will participate in full software development lifecycle, conduct rigorous testing with JUnit/Mockito, and engage in code reviews within a distributed, time-zone-spread team.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development, with at least 4 years backend in Java or Kotlin.
• Experience designing distributed relational databases and performing live schema migrations.
• Designing and maintaining high-performance service interfaces (gRPC and REST) with security using OAuth2/JWT.
• Strong Angular/TypeScript frontend capabilities with production UI components and RxJS for state management.

Responsibilities

Requirements

• Backend Mastery (Primary)
• 6+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 4 years focused on backend development in Java or Kotlin.
• Distributed Data: Hands-on experience with distributed relational databases, including schema design, performing schema migrations on live systems, and reasoning about consistency and transactional guarantees at scale.
• Service Interfaces: Experience designing and maintaining high-performance, contract-driven service interfaces (gRPC and Protocol Buffers or equivalent) in addition to RESTful APIs.
• Security: Solid understanding of OAuth2, JWT, and web security best practices (OWASP).
• Cloud & DevOps: Experience deploying and managing applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Frontend Capability
• Solid Angular Knowledge: Proficiency in Angular (v18+) and TypeScript, with demonstrable experience shipping production UI components (not only reading frontend code).
• State Management: Experience handling data mutations and state synchronization between backend and UI (RxJs).
• Testing & Quality
• Full-Coverage Testing: Mastery of JUnit/Mockito for backend and working knowledge of Jasmine/Karma for frontend testing.
• Code Review Discipline: Experience operating within formal code review workflows, including external approval cycles outside the immediate team. Comfortable both giving substantive reviews and incorporating feedback without friction.

• Asynchronous Communication: Able to keep work visible in writing, flagging risks and blockers ahead of time rather than reporting them after the fact, and maintaining ticket and task status current without follow-up from the manager.
• Process Discipline: Consistent adherence to defined engineering processes, including complete and accurate tracking data. This is a distributed team working across time zones, so written clarity and predictable responsiveness carry as much weight as technical skill.
• Autonomy: Pursues dependencies and blockers with third parties on their own initiative, and carries work from start to finish without reminders.

Job responsibilities

• Backend Development: Design and implement robust, scalable backend services using Java and Kotlin, from initial design through production deployment.
• API Delivery: Build and maintain high-performance service interfaces.
• Database Work: Optimize complex SQL queries, design and execute schema migrations, and ensure data consistency across relational and non-relational stores.
• Hands-On Frontend Delivery: Develop responsive UI components in Angular (v18+) and TypeScript. Frontend work is a regular part of the week, not an occasional exception.
• Code Review Participation: Review peers’ changes across both backend and frontend, and respond to review feedback within agreed turnaround times. Review participation is an expected part of the role and is measured.
• Quality Ownership: Deliver work with test coverage in place. Verify changes through the full deployment path before declaring them complete.
• Operational Communication: Keep task tracking accurate and current, raise risks early, and communicate progress asynchronously to a distributed team.
