Job summary

Verkada is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer (Video Streaming) to design and implement streaming features for our 1M+.4M deployed cameras. You will collaborate with firmware, backend, and native client teams to deliver a fast, secure, and scalable streaming capture experience for live and historical video.

You will help optimize firmware components for efficiency and future-proofing, with a focus on low latency, startup time, and QoE in constrained environments.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in embedded systems with video streaming.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded Linux environments.
• Willing to work onsite five days per week.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize embedded video encoding and streaming pipelines.
• Implement and tune hardware-accelerated codecs (H.264/HEVC/AV1) for low power and high quality.
• Build/extend multimedia frameworks (GStreamer, FFmpeg) for real-time video capture and processing.
• Integrate and optimize streaming protocols (RTSP, RTP, RTMP, HLS, DASH, WebRTC) for low latency.
• Profile startup time, latency, rebuffering, and QoE metrics.
• Debug encoding pipelines, transport layers, and device utilization.
