Job summary

Kake, a remote-first company and a people-first global community of senior engineers, seeks a Senior Web & Video Player Engineer to own playback features across web and Connected TV, delivering high-quality streaming experiences.

You will collaborate with product and engineering teams to ship reliable video experiences, optimize QoE, and contribute to React Native deployments for multi-device environments while working asynchronously with teams across different time zones.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of web development experience with JavaScript and web video playback.
• Proven experience building video players and live playback components for web and Connected TV platforms.
• Hands-on experience with streaming frameworks (Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka).
• Debug and optimize playback performance (rebuffering, startup time, stability).
• Familiarity with live playback concepts (latency, live edge, drift) and DRM integration.
• Excellent written and verbal English; able to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and implement video player features across web and Connected TV platforms.
• Build and optimize video player components using frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka.
• Troubleshoot playback issues including rebuffering and latency.
• Analyze player performance and QoE metrics to improve playback quality.
• Contribute to player implementations using React Native for CTV and multi-device environments.
• Write automated unit or end-to-end tests and consume RESTful APIs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver software using agile methodologies.
• Provide clear technical specifications and documentation for playback features.
