The Electrical Engineer – Designer is responsible for the planning, design, development, and technical documentation of electrical systems for building, industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects. The position ensures that electrical designs are technically sound, safe, cost-effective, and compliant with applicable codes, standards, project specifications, and client requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare electrical designs, calculations, layouts, schematics, single-line diagrams, and other engineering drawings for assigned projects.
- Develop electrical systems including, as applicable, power distribution, lighting, emergency power, grounding and lightning protection, fire alarm, low-voltage, and other electrical systems.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, plans, specifications, schedules, and design documents using appropriate design software and tools.
- Perform electrical load calculations, voltage-drop calculations, short-circuit calculations, cable sizing, equipment sizing, and other necessary engineering calculations.
- Select appropriate electrical equipment, materials, devices, and components based on project requirements and applicable standards.
- Review architectural, structural, mechanical, and other discipline drawings to ensure proper coordination and integration of electrical systems.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, clients, and other project stakeholders regarding design requirements and technical issues.
- Conduct design reviews and identify potential conflicts, inconsistencies, constructability issues, and technical risks before implementation.
- Revise electrical drawings and designs based on project requirements, site conditions, client comments, design changes, and engineering review.
- Prepare and maintain electrical specifications, bills of quantities/materials, equipment schedules, and other technical documentation.
- Review shop drawings, material submittals, technical proposals, and other contractor or supplier submissions for compliance with approved designs and specifications.
- Provide technical support during project implementation and assist in resolving design-related issues encountered at the site.
- Conduct site inspections or surveys, when required, to verify existing conditions and ensure that designs are suitable for actual site requirements.
- Ensure that electrical designs comply with applicable Philippine laws, codes, standards, safety requirements, and relevant international standards, as applicable to the project.
- Assist in estimating project costs and quantities of electrical materials and equipment.
- Participate in project meetings, design coordination meetings, and technical discussions as required.
- Maintain proper documentation and revision control of drawings, calculations, specifications, and other engineering documents.
- Monitor assigned design deliverables to ensure they are completed accurately and within the required project schedule.
- Perform other related engineering and design duties that may reasonably be assigned by management in accordance with the requirements of the business.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Licensed Electrical Engineer (REE/PEE), where required by the nature of the position and applicable regulations.
- Relevant experience in electrical engineering design, preferably in building, industrial, commercial, infrastructure, or construction projects.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or other relevant electrical design and engineering software.
- Knowledge of electrical design standards, codes, specifications, and engineering practices.
- Strong analytical, technical, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and other engineering drawings.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Willingness to conduct site visits and work according to project requirements.
