JOB DESCRIPTION

DIALYSIS NURSE:

  • Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of patients before, during, and after dialysis sessions. Monitor vital signs, assess fluid status, and evaluate overall well-being.
  • Dialysis Preparation: Set up and prepare dialysis machines and equipment before each session. Ensure that the machines are calibrated and functioning properly.
  • Vascular Access Management: Monitor and care for vascular access sites, such as arteriovenous fistulas or grafts, ensuring proper functioning and minimizing the risk of infection.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about the dialysis process, including the importance of adherence to treatment schedules, dietary restrictions, and fluid restrictions.
  • Administering Medications: Administer prescribed medications, including those required during dialysis and any other medications essential for the patient's overall health.
  • Continuous Monitoring: Monitor patients continuously during dialysis, observing for any adverse reactions, changes in vital signs, or signs of complications. Act promptly in response to emergencies.
  • Fluid Management: Regulate fluid removal during dialysis to prevent complications such as hypotension or fluid overload. Adjust settings based on the patient's condition and tolerance.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and thorough records of each dialysis session, including vital signs, medications administered, and any complications or changes in the patient's condition.
  • Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including nephrologists, dietitians, and social workers, to ensure comprehensive care for dialysis patients.
  • Patient Advocacy: Advocate for the needs and concerns of dialysis patients, ensuring that their treatment plans align with their overall health goals and quality of life.
  • Infection Control: Implement strict infection control measures to prevent infections in patients, including maintaining a sterile environment and adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Emotional Support: Provide emotional support to patients and their families, as undergoing regular dialysis can be emotionally challenging. Address concerns and provide reassurance.
  • Patient Transportation: Assist with patient transportation to and from the dialysis center, if necessary.
  • Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on dialysis machines, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure equipment safety.
  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including managing complications during dialysis, such as hypotension or clotting.
  • Liaison with Dialysis Center Management: Communicate with the management of the dialysis center regarding any equipment needs, staffing concerns, or other operational matters.
