Job summary

Manulife Financial is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join the Asia Data Office in Manila. You will drive data operations, implement ETL/ELT flows using Spark, Python and Azure data services, and mentor teams in agile practices.

You will support data lake operations, tackle incidents, and contribute to data governance and compliance. The role is hybrid, offering collaboration with regional partners and opportunities to mature data solutions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in data engineering, platform/DevOps or software engineering roles.
• Strong understanding of distributed computing and large data platforms.
• Proficient with Hadoop cluster or equivalent cloud data services on Azure.
• Experience with Azure ADLS, Data Factory, Databricks, Event Hubs.
• Knowledge of SQL warehouses and data governance concepts.
• Experience with Python and Spark for ETL/ELT workflows.

Responsibilities

• Select and integrate Big Data tools and frameworks to meet requirements.
• Implement ETL/ELT flows using Spark, Python, Azure data services.
• Monitor performance and advise infrastructure or code optimizations.
• Support business users in Enterprise Data Lake operations.
• Run POCs on new integration patterns and solutions.
• Maintain platform stability and performance of the EDL.
• Attend incidents and change requests; write technical docs.
• Perform unit and system integration tests; implement updates and patches.
• Support Agile delivery squads when required.
