Job summary

nightowl consulting philippines inc. is seeking a Senior Accountant to join a growing Finance team. The role combines technical accounting expertise with a data-driven approach to financial reporting and process improvement.

You will lead month-end close, apply US GAAP to loan-related accounting, and automate reports and reconciliations. Strong communication with non-finance stakeholders is key, with prior experience in mortgage/fintech helpful.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in mortgage/fintech/financial services.
• Strong US GAAP accounting foundation with ability to research and document complex issues.
• Advanced Excel skills; SQL/Python or data tools experience preferred.
• Experience building or improving management reports or dashboards, with automation.
• Experience implementing or optimizing accounting systems; familiarity with loan accounting platforms.
• Exposure to SOC 1 audits and internal control documentation.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual closings with accurate financial statements.
• Apply technical accounting in loan origination, interest income, servicing assets, and revenue recognition within mortgage/financial services.
• Develop and automate recurring reports and reconciliations to reduce manual work.
• Identify and implement process improvements across AR, AP, reconciliations, and close activities.
• Assist in documenting and testing internal controls for audit readiness and compliance.
• Support accounting systems implementation and ensure controls are integrated into workflows.
• Prepare audit schedules, investor reports, and regulatory filings with complete documentation.
• Manage payroll-related journal entries and accruals; oversee corporate card programs and banking instructions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, ensuring financial statements are accurate, complete, and delivered on time.
• Apply technical accounting expertise in loan origination, interest income, servicing assets, deferred costs, and revenue recognition within a mortgage or financial services environment.
• Develop and automate recurring reports and reconciliations to minimize manual work and improve reporting efficiency.
• Identify, evaluate, and implement process improvements and automation initiatives across accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial closing activities.
• Assist in assessing, documenting, and testing internal controls to support audit readiness and ongoing compliance requirements.
• Support the implementation and optimization of accounting systems, ensuring appropriate controls and reporting requirements are integrated into workflows.
• Prepare audit schedules, investor reports, and regulatory filings, maintaining complete, accurate, and audit-ready documentation.
• Manage and reconcile payroll, bonus, and employee benefits-related journal entries and accruals.
• Administer corporate card programs, including credit limit requests, card issuance, ad hoc requests, and employee offboarding.
• Coordinate banking instructions for new accounts and oversee daily loan funding operations, including preparing funding lists and maintaining booking confirmations.
• Review and approve daily custodial account sweeps and coordinate with junior analysts to prepare and approve ACH and wire payments following the required authorization procedures.
• Maintain accurate master data records for completed loans and ensure data integrity across accounting and operational systems.
• Prepare consolidated financial statements, including balance sheets with and without eliminations and income statements, and maintain the monthly trial balance for balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare and submit required financial information through regulatory reporting systems, including quarterly financial condition schedules, state-level gross revenue schedules, and supporting documentation for mortgage-related regulatory filings.
• Prepare annual year-to-date revenue breakdowns by state and supporting schedules for external tax return preparation.
