Position Overview
We are looking for a highly experienced BIM / Revit Drafter with strong structural drafting and modelling experience to support complex Australian projects.
This is a hands‑on senior BIM role for someone who can independently develop accurate BIM models and documentation from engineering and architectural information, while also contributing to the development of BIM workflows, standards, and protocols.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of how buildings are constructed and be able to identify inconsistencies, coordination issues, constructability concerns, and modelling errors without relying heavily on engineers to check their work.
This is not a general drafting position. Extensive BIM and 3D modelling experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed BIM models using Autodesk Revit, primarily for structural projects.
- Translate architectural drawings, engineering information, specifications, and design requirements into accurate BIM models.
- Produce high-quality structural documentation, drawings, schedules, views, and project information.
- Set up and maintain project models, including project browsers, views, sheets, drawing numbers, titles, levels, and model information.
- Review models and documentation for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and constructability.
- Identify potential modelling, coordination, and constructability issues before they become project problems.
- Coordinate structural information with architectural and other building disciplines within the BIM environment.
- Apply appropriate BIM standards, workflows, naming conventions, documentation requirements, and quality‑control processes.
- Develop and improve BIM protocols and workflows for the wider drafting team.
- Establish consistent modelling and documentation practices that can be adopted by other BIM drafters.
- Review and provide guidance on the work of intermediate BIM drafters.
- Take ownership of drawing and model quality rather than relying on engineers to identify every issue.
- Work with relatively little supervision and manage assigned modelling and documentation tasks independently.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy across complex and large-scale projects.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of dedicated BIM / 3D modelling experience — general drafting experience alone will not be sufficient.
- Extensive hands‑on experience with Autodesk Revit.
- Strong structural BIM / Revit experience.
- Demonstrated experience producing Australian-standard structural documentation.
- Previous experience working on Australian projects, particularly structural projects, is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of building construction and structural elements.
- Ability to interpret architectural drawings, engineering drawings, specifications, and structural information.
- Strong understanding of BIM modelling principles and project documentation.
- Ability to independently review work and identify obvious errors, inconsistencies, clashes, and constructability issues.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to documentation quality.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Ability and willingness to remain hands‑on with modelling and drafting rather than moving entirely into people management.
Senior-Level Expectations
The ideal candidate will go beyond simply producing models. They should be able to:
- Take ownership of BIM model setup and documentation quality.
- Establish practical BIM workflows and protocols.
- Improve consistency across projects and drawing sets.
- Provide technical guidance to other BIM drafters.
- Identify problems before they reach the engineer or client.
- Apply sound construction knowledge when interpreting drawings and modelling information.
- Recognise when something in a model does not make practical or structural sense.
- Balance approximately hands‑on BIM production with BIM coordination/process development.
