Job summary

Maya is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer for Risk Tech (Fraud & AML) in the Philippines. You will own backend projects from planning to production, designing scalable services, and collaborating across teams to deliver secure, high-quality systems that support risk management.

You will lead architecture discussions, implement robust back-end APIs, and mentor junior engineers while working in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience leading backend or platform projects from design through production.
• Strong experience building backend services with Java and/or Python on AWS.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB).
• Strong experience designing, building, and using RESTful APIs / backend services at scale.
• Typically 6–10+ years building large-scale internet services, platforms, or backend systems.
• Comfortable with automated testing (JUnit, pytest, Jest, Mocha) and disciplined code reviews.
• Strong experience with Git-based workflows and CI/CD.
• Experience with containers (Docker) and deploying/operating services in the cloud.
• Plus: caching (Redis/Memcached), event-driven systems, and observability.
• Plus: Fraud, AML, or broader Risk experience in banking or fintech.
• Plus: frontend familiarity to collaborate with UI teams.

Responsibilities

• Own backend projects from start to finish: planning, design, build, release, monitoring, and upkeep.
• Translate Product and Risk needs into clear technical designs and delivery plans.
• Collaborate across teams to resolve technical dependencies.
• Contribute to architecture discussions for Fraud & AML capabilities.
• Build scalable, reliable services that securely handle risk data.
• Create reusable APIs/services for other teams and partners; uphold quality and performance standards.
• Lead code reviews and releases; mentor junior engineers.
• Document best practices and share knowledge within Risk Tech engineering.
• Support hiring and team activities as a senior contributor.
