A Sales and Marketing General Manager (GM) for the food industry in Cebu requires a unique blend of high-level strategic planning and "on-the-ground" local expertise. Since Cebu is the gateway to the Visayas and Mindanao (VisMin) regions, the role is heavily focused on distribution networks, modern trade, and local consumer behavior.
VisMin Expansion: Develop and execute the annual sales and marketing blueprint specifically for the Cebu and wider VisMin market.
Revenue Growth: Accountable for the P&L (Profit and Loss) of the food business unit, ensuring sustainable margins.
Brand Positioning: Localize national marketing campaigns to resonate with Cebuano culture and preferences (e.g., leveraging local festivals like Sinulog or local taste profiles).
Modern Trade & General Trade: Oversee relationships with major Cebu-based retailers (e.g., Gaisano groups, Robinsons, SM) and traditional "mom-and-pop" distributors.
Route-to-Market (RTM): Optimize delivery routes and logistics from the Cebu hub to neighboring islands.
Pricing & Trade Spend: Manage trade promotions, discounts, and listings to ensure product visibility without eroding margins.
Lead and mentor a cross-functional team including Sales Executives and Marketing Specialists.
Establish KPIs and establish programs to drive performance in a highly competitive environment.
Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Food Technology, or a related field. An MBA is ahighly preferred for the General Manager level.
Industry Tenure: Minimum of 10–15 years of experience in Sales and Marketing within the food industry.
Leadership: At least 5 years in a senior leadership role (Senior Manager or Director level).
Market Mastery: Deep understanding of the VisMin supply chain and the unique retail landscape of Cebu.
Data Literacy: Ability to analyze data, sales analytics, and consumer insights to pivot strategies.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with the regulatory requirements in the Philippines.
Linguistic Proficiency: Fluency in English, Tagalog, and Cebuano (Bisaya) is often critical for building rapport with local distributors and field staff.
Negotiation: Proven track record of negotiating high-stakes contracts with major supermarket chains.
Adaptability: Ability to manage the "Manila-Cebu" corporate dynamic, often acting as the bridge between the national head office and local operations.
Financial Acumen: Budgeting, Forecasting, and P&L Management.
Channel Management: Expertise in Key Accounts (Supermarkets) and Distributors.
Product Launch: Proven success in introducing new food products to the market.
Crisis Management: Handling supply chain disruptions or food safety issues.
