Asticom Technology Inc. in the Philippines is seeking an experienced RPG Programmer to design, develop, test, and maintain IBM i-based software.
The role covers core legacy code and modern IBM i applications, translating business requirements into technical solutions with a focus on performance and modernization. You will work with RPG IV/RPGLE, Free-Format RPG, and DB2 SQL, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement REST APIs and data integrations.
We are seeking an experienced RPG Programmer to design, develop, test, and maintain business-critical application systems running on the IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) platform. In this role, you will work on both core legacy codebases and modern IBM i applications, translating business requirements into technical solutions, optimizing database performance, and participating in system modernization initiatives.
Write, clean, and optimize programs using RPG IV, RPGLE, and Fully Free-Form RPG to support core business operations
Develop embedded SQL operations, DB2 procedures, Control Language (CL) scripts, and DDS/DSPF subfile screens for efficient data processing
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to translate functional business specifications into structured technical designs and workflows
Debug complex software issues, perform unit and system integration testing, and issue hotfixes to maintain high application stability
Refactor legacy column-based code (RPG III/RPG IV) to Free-Format RPG, modularize features using Service Programs (*SRVPGM) and Modules (*MODULE), and build REST APIs for third-party integrations
Create and update technical design specs, data flow diagrams, and system change logs in compliance with internal change management procedures
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent hands-on industry experience
3+ years of hands-on experience in software development on the IBM i (AS/400, iSeries) OS environment
Proficient in RPGLE, Free-Format RPG, CL/CLLE, and DB2 SQL
Hands-on experience with IBM Rational Developer for i (RDi), Program Development Manager (PDM), Source Entry Utility (SEU), and Change Management software (e.g., Aldon, Turnover, or Git)
Deep understanding of relational database concepts, physical files (PF), logical files (LF), and DB2 indexing strategies
Experience with modernization frameworks (e.g., Profound UI, Node.js, Python, or PHP on IBM i)
Knowledge of web integration technologies, including JSON, XML, RESTful APIs, and HTTP server configurations
Familiarity with modern continuous integration, version control (Git), and Agile/Scrum delivery processes
