Job summary

TeamUp is seeking an experienced Client Accountant to support technology startup clients across Canada and the US in a fully remote role. You will own the monthly close, oversee full-cycle accounting, and directly communicate with clients to ensure accurate financial information and strong service delivery.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience including full-cycle accounting and month-end close.
• North American (Canadian/US) client experience preferred or possible with learning Canadian payroll/tax.
• Experience managing multiple clients or entities; accounting firm or outsourced accounting background preferred.
• Strong accrual accounting knowledge with reconciliations, deferrals, and financial reporting.
• Excellent written and spoken English; ability to lead client conversations.
• Proficiency with Xero and Excel/Sheets; familiarity with automation tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close for a portfolio of 3–5 tech startup clients; set priorities and deadlines.
• Perform or review full-cycle accrual accounting, reconciliations, AP/AR, payroll entries, fixed assets, GL maintenance.
• Ensure accuracy of client books and supporting schedules.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Investigate discrepancies and process gaps; implement practical next steps.
• Communicate with clients via email, Slack, and video meetings; provide proactive updates.
• Coordinate with team members to keep client work moving.
• Support Canadian/US payroll, sales tax filings, and other compliance workflows.
• Improve procedures, documentation, controls, and client workflows.
• Evaluate and use cloud-based automation/AI tools to boost accuracy and efficiency.
