The Stevedore is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient loading and unloading of cargo during Lift-On/Lift-Off (LoLo) and Roll-On/Roll-Off (RoRo) vessel Operations. This role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, teamwork, and precision in handling cargo and equipment to ensure smooth and timely operations.
Qualifications
- At least High School Graduate or equivalent.
- With experience in cargo handling, port operations, or stevedoring is an advantage.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual labor in varying weather conditions.
- Knowledge of basic safety protocols and hand signals used in port operations.
- Able to work efficiency as part of a team.
- Willing to work on shifting schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend Toolbox Meetings prior to vessel operations.
- Board the vessel and commence work only upon the Supervisor's authorization.
- Remove hooks and lashing materials from cargo and secure them properly.
- Handle wire slings, hooks, and other rigging equipment during crane operations.
- Position and secure hooks on tire plates as directed.
- Place dunnage to protect both cargo and truck chassis.
- Control and guide tag lines to stabilize cargo during lifting or lowering.
- Detach cargo upon landing on the dock and return gears to the vessel for reuse.
- Send operational signals to the winch operator when the designated signalman is unavailable.
