Your Role
As a Payroll Specialist, you will:
- Payroll Processing: End-to-end processing of regular payroll (salaries, wages, bonuses, and deductions) in accordance with company policies and government regulations.
- Data Management: Maintain and update payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, job titles, and department transfers.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations. Prepare regular payroll reports for management and accounting reconciliation.
- Query Resolution: Act as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding paychecks, tax withholding, and payroll policies, resolving issues efficiently.
- System Maintenance: Collaborate with HR and IT to ensure the payroll software/system is updated, accurate, and integrated properly with timekeeping systems.
- Offboarding & Final Pay: Calculate and process final pay, severance, and termination payouts in compliance with legal standards.
What You Need - Non-negotiables
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of proven experience as a Payroll Specialist, Payroll Clerk, or in a similar payroll-focused role.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a business-related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with mainstream payroll software (e.g., ADP, Workday, Paychex, or similar) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables).
- Core Competencies: Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax codes, and statutory deduction regulations.
Preferred Skills / Expertise
- AU Payroll Experience (Nice-to-have): Prior experience processing Australian payroll—including familiarity with Single Touch Payroll (STP), Superannuation, and Fair Work awards—is highly regarded but not required.
- Certifications: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or equivalent payroll certification.
