Job summary

Fontis Energy is seeking a seasoned Night Tool Pusher to oversee safety, efficiency, and client relations on the drilling unit, providing onboard leadership to meet the customer’s drilling program requirements. You will supervise rig activities, coordinate maintenance, and ensure proper use of equipment while maintaining strong communication with the OIM, marine crews, and engineers.

A well control certificate and 5+ years in oil and gas are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in oil and gas drilling operations.
  • Valid well control certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise rig preloading, leg penetration, and positioning.
  • Plan and supervise daily rig activities and maintenance.
  • Order rig supplies and materials to ensure on-hand availability.
  • Make decisions on equipment utilization to prevent damage.
  • Lead daily operations meetings with key personnel for safe, efficient drilling.
  • Prepare/approve weekly reports with OIM covering operations status.
  • Coordinate rig maintenance across operations, engineering, and marine teams.
  • Handle additional duties as required by management.

Job description

ROLE SUMMARY

The Night Tool Pusher has responsibility for the operational safety, efficiency, production and client relations of the drilling unit. The Night Tool Pusher provides onboard leadership and direction for meeting the customers’ drilling program requirements within Fontis Energy’s programs, policies and procedures.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise and monitor rig preloading and leg penetration during rig movement and placement.
  • Plan and supervise rig activities such as repairs, daily maintenance of drilling fluids, rigging up or down, etc. Ensure all activities are coordinated with a minimal loss of time or effort.
  • Order needed rig supplies, parts and materials, anticipating and requisitioning each needed item ensuring items are on hand when needed.
  • Make decisions regarding utilization of equipment, making sure the rig and support equipment is used properly and not endangered or damaged unnecessarily.
  • Conduct daily operations meeting with OIM, Barge Engineer, Drillers, Crane Operators, and other key personnel to plan, execute, and monitor major daily evolutions ensuring safe and efficient operations.
  • Write and/or approve weekly report in cooperation with the OIM on present drilling operations, equipment status, material status, and supplies.
  • Oversee the rig preventative maintenance program and coordinate maintenance between operations, engineering, and marine departments.
  • Any other matters as deemed necessary by Company Management.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preferably a bachelor’s degree: High school degree or equivalent. Valid well control certificate.
  • Years of experience: more than 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Strong technical background in all aspects of drilling operations and support equipment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and management skills.
  • Proficient computer skills in office software and company proprietary software.
  • Experienced in marine environmental and hazardous material regulations and procedures.
  • Experienced in offshore marine operations, industrial environment, and drilling operations.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks daily and to follow-up on all tasking to completion.
  • Ability to claim and accept ownership of rig equipment and processes, and to provide appropriate leadership when called upon.
  • Excellent customer service skills to deal with all manners, and type, of customers.
