A Network Systems Engineer designs, implements, and maintains the network infrastructure. It focuses on routing and switching technologies. They are responsible for troubleshooting network issues, ensuring optimal performance, and collaborating with other teams to implement and manage network solutions. Has an ability to craft an updated, detailed and substantial network documentation for reference.
Duties and Responsibilities
Planning and designing network architectures, including routing and switching configurations particularly under layer 2 & 3.
Installation and Commissioning of network devices.
Troubleshooting, investigating and resolving network problems, ensuring high availability and reliability.
Tracking network performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions to improve efficiency.
Monitoring traffic patterns, bandwidth utilization, latency, and security alerts for suspicious activity and potential threats.
Identifying bottlenecks, optimize network resources, and improve overall performance.
Implementing and maintaining network security best practices, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Design, configure, and implement firewalls, VPNs, and other security solutions to protect network infrastructure.
Maintain detailed documentation of network / firewall configurations, policies, and changes.
Determining latest technologies and processes that improve the overall security of the system.
Working with other IT teams, such as security, systems, and support, to ensure seamless integration and support.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering or any related field.
2-3 years of hands‑on experience in network, IT, or a related field.
Strong foundation in basic network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
Comprehensive skills in routing protocols (i.e. BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS).
Equipped in switching concepts (i.e. VLANs, Spanning Tree), and network device configurations.
In‑depth knowledge in Firewall configuration, VPNs, SD‑WAN, and security protocols (knowledgeable in Palo Alto, Checkpoint is a plus).
Familiarity in handling network tools (i.e. Solarwinds, PRTG, Wireshark, FortiSIEM, Meraki Dashboard, Datadog).
With certifications like CCNA, Fortinet Certification, HCNA, etc.
