Qualifications

The Role

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of guests using the swimming pool facilities in accordance with Mandarin Oriental's Legendary Quality Experiences (LQE), MOQA standards, and Spa & Wellness brand standards. This role proactively monitors pool activities, responds to emergencies, maintains safety and cleanliness standards, and delivers exceptional guest service while contributing to a safe, welcoming, and luxury wellness environment.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Experience & Service Excellence

• Deliver exceptional, professional, and personalized service to all guests utilizing the pool and wellness facilities.
• Welcome guests and provide information regarding pool facilities, operating hours, and safety guidelines.
• Maintain a visible and approachable presence while ensuring a safe and enjoyable guest experience.
• Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly to requests and enquiries.
• Uphold LQE, MOQA, and Spa & Wellness service standards at all times.
• Maintain professional grooming and presentation in accordance with Mandarin Oriental standards.

Pool Safety & Lifeguarding Operations

• Continuously monitor pool activities to ensure guest safety and compliance with facility rules and regulations.
• Take immediate and appropriate action in emergency situations, including water rescue, first aid, CPR, and AED response.
• Conduct regular inspections of the pool, deck, and surrounding facilities to identify and report safety hazards.
• Ensure lifesaving equipment, first aid supplies, and emergency equipment remain operational and readily accessible.
• Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents, rescues, and daily safety inspections.
• Enforce pool rules and safety procedures consistently and professionally.
• Assist in opening and closing procedures of pool operations.

Health, Safety & Hygiene

• Ensure compliance with all hotel health, safety, hygiene, and emergency procedures.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard‑free pool environment.
• Report maintenance issues, unsafe conditions, and equipment malfunctions promptly.
• Participate in emergency drills and safety training as required.
• Support the implementation of risk management and accident prevention initiatives.

Operational Support

• Support daily Fitness Centre and Spa & Wellness operations as required.
• Assist with pool setup, towel service, guest amenities, and facility presentation.
• Support VIP arrivals, wellness events, and special guest activities.
• Assist with inventory monitoring of pool supplies and amenities.
• Coordinate effectively with Housekeeping, Engineering, and Spa & Wellness colleagues to ensure seamless operations.

Teamwork & Professional Development

• Participate actively in departmental meetings, briefings, and training sessions.
• Maintain valid lifeguarding, first aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
• Demonstrate flexibility in supporting operational requirements across the Spa & Wellness Department.
• Foster a positive and collaborative working environment.
• Act as an ambassador of the Mandarin Oriental Spa & Wellness philosophy and service culture.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support operations across all Spa & Wellness areas as required, including Fitness Centre, Pool, Reception, Retail, Relaxation Areas, and Wellness Programs.
• Assist guests with facility orientation and wellness‑related enquiries.
• Perform opening and closing duties as assigned.
• Comply with all health, safety, hygiene, and emergency procedures.
• Carry out any additional responsibilities assigned by the Fitness Supervisor or Director of Spa & Wellness.
