AImagineers is seeking an entry-level AI/ML Engineer to join our delivery team on a 12-month fixed-term contract in the Philippines. This role is built for someone early in their career who seeks mentorship and real responsibility on production-grade AI systems.

You will design, build, and maintain AI features for government and institutional clients, work with RAG pipelines, vector databases, and LLM integrations, and collaborate with the Founder & CEO on architecture and delivery.

We are looking for an entry-level AI/ML Engineer to join our delivery team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role is built for someone at the beginning of their career who is hungry to grow fast, contribute immediately, and develop under direct mentorship - not someone who already has all the answers, but someone who is serious about finding them.

This is not a support role. You will be a core contributor on live, production-grade AI systems serving government and institutional clients across the Philippines. You will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, make sound technical decisions, and flag problems early.

This contract is co-terminus with an active client engagement. Strong performance creates a clear path to a permanent role as AImagineers scales.

Pay

Monthly compensation package: PHP 30,000 to 50,000. Placement within the range is based on our technical assessment.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain AI-powered features and services on production systems used by real end-users across government and institutional settings
• Develop and optimize RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines, vector search architectures, and LLM integrations using Python and FastAPI
• Build and maintain backend APIs and data pipelines that power AI features across multiple client platforms
• Contribute to frontend interfaces using React and Vite where AI features surface to users
• Collaborate directly with the Founder & CEO on architecture decisions, client deliverables, and sprint priorities
• Participate in requirements gathering, technical scoping, and solution design for new and ongoing client engagements
• Write clean, documented, testable code that other engineers can maintain and extend
• Contribute to internal tooling, infrastructure, and the continuous improvement of our delivery process
• Take on whatever needs doing - in a small studio, the best engineers don't wait for their lane to be drawn

Core requirements

• Solid Python fundamentals - you write clean, readable, working code and you know why it works
• Hands-on experience with FastAPI or Django for building backend APIs - even if limited, it has to be real
• Working knowledge of RAG concepts, vector databases (e.g. pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate), and embedding pipelines
• Exposure to LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models) and a genuine curiosity about how they behave
• Frontend exposure with React and Vite - you don't need to be a designer, but you can build functional, clean UIs
• Familiarity with Git, Docker, and working in a Linux-based development environment

Strong signals we look for

• You have shipped something real - not a tutorial clone or a classroom exercise, but something you conceived, built, and put in front of actual users
• Your portfolio shows evidence of thinking beyond the assignment: you asked why the problem exists, considered who would use it, and made decisions that reflect that understanding
• You can read a poorly defined requirement and ask the right clarifying questions before writing a single line of code
• You understand why RAG exists, what its failure modes are, and how to think about retrieval quality
• You are comfortable with ambiguity and do not need a detailed spec to start moving
• You communicate problems early and solutions clearly

Good to have

• Experience with prompt engineering, structured output design, or LLM evaluation frameworks
• Exposure to k3s, Kubernetes, or containerized deployment environments
• Experience working with PostgreSQL and pgvector
• Background in agriculture, public health, or government systems
• Exposure to fine-tuning workflows or open-source model deployment
