Job Summary
The IT Network Administrator is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing the organization's network infrastructure to ensure reliability, performance, availability, and security. This role manages network operations across local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), cloud-connected environments, and supporting infrastructure while providing technical support, troubleshooting network issues, and implementing solutions that support business continuity and operational excellence.
What does a day in the life of an IT Network Administrator look like?
- Install, configure, maintain, and support network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networks, VPNs, and related technologies
- Monitor network performance, availability, capacity, and security to ensure optimal operation and compliance with organizational standards
- Troubleshoot and resolve network, connectivity, routing, switching, wireless, and infrastructure-related issues in a timely manner
- Implement and maintain network configurations, including VLANs, routing protocols, IP addressing, and network segmentation
- Support network security initiatives through the implementation of access controls, authentication services, monitoring tools, and security best practices
- Maintain network servers, VPN gateways, intrusion detection systems, and other supporting network infrastructure components
- Analyze network performance trends and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency
- Support deployment, configuration, maintenance, and upgrades of network hardware, software, and related systems
- Collaborate with Information Security, Infrastructure, Operations, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with security requirements and technology standards
- Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, configuration records, and operational procedures
- Support technology migrations, infrastructure upgrades, system deployments, and business continuity initiatives as assigned
- Provide technical support and guidance related to network connectivity, infrastructure services, and communication systems
- Utilize network monitoring and management tools to proactively identify, investigate, and resolve issues
- Assist with vendor coordination, equipment procurement, warranty support, and technology lifecycle management activities as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve network performance, security, reliability, and operational effectiveness
- Adhere to company policies and procedures
- Meet or exceed performance targets for related KPIs
- Continuously improve knowledge of products, services, and processes by participating in training programs and continuous learning modules
- Collaborate with other departments as needed
- Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers and colleagues at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned
What are the required qualifications of an IT Network Administrator?
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Engineering, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in network administration, network operations, infrastructure support, or a related role
- Experience or knowledge about palo alto firewall, cortex xdr, cisco devices, unifi networks, network patch managements
- Active CCNA certifications required; CCNP or PCNSE certification preferred
- Strong knowledge of LAN, WAN, wireless networking, VPN technologies, routing, switching, and network security principles
- Experience configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless technologies
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing protocols, network segmentation, and authentication services
- Experience utilizing network monitoring, management, and diagnostic tools
- Working knowledge of server infrastructure, virtualization platforms, cloud technologies, and endpoint connectivity preferred
- Ability to create and maintain network diagrams, technical documentation, and operational procedures
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information effectively
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
